Skype Now Available for Nokia Belle Symbian OS
While owners of Windows Phone still have to wait for a native Skype solution despite Microsoft’s acquisition of the VoIP telephony company, owners of Nokia’s Symbian smartphone with the latest Nokia Belle, former called Symbian Belle or Symbian^3 Belle, can now download the Skype app.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t look like video calling is supported at this time on the Symbian version of the Skype app, and users would be only limited to VoIP calls and messaging.
Still, the delivery of Skype to Symbian will be significant to Symbian owners who travel or want to conserve on their voice calling plan minutes or SMS use every month as calls and IMs on Skype will be routed through a mobile broadband plan. Skype is also another notable and high-profile title for Symbian users as in the past owners of phones running the Symbian platform have complained that there weren’t enough big name titles available.
The free app can be downloaded through Nokia Store on your device, which was formerly branded as the Ovi Store.
Nokia Belle is available on the Nokia 600, 603, 700, and 701 smartphones. Older models like the Nokia N8, E7, C7, X7, C6, and E6 should be receiving their updates to Belle shortly.
