Nokia Launching New High-End Smartphone at MWC 2012?

There have been whispers about another Nokia smartphone making an appearance at this year’s Mobile World Congress which is set to kick off in Barcelona on February 27th.  And it appears that there might just be some truth to those rumors as Forbes is reporting that Nokia will launch at least one high-end smartphone at this year’s MWC. Nokia’s press event is scheduled for the 27th so it will presumably make an announcement then and there.

As far as the actual device or devices are concerned, there is very little to go on.

The company partner that revealed the announcement apparently wouldn’t confirm whether it was a Windows Phone powered device, only that it “would run an unusual software feature normally found only on high-end smartphones.”

Nokia 900We’ll just go ahead and assume that it’s Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

As for the hardware, there have been whispers about a device called the Nokia Lumia 910 that is rumored to be heading to the United Kingdom. And while Damian Dinning, head of Nokia’s imaging experience team, actually took to a public forum disputing rumors about the Lumia 910, his remarks were about the rumored 12MP camera and not the existence of the device itself.

So it’s possible that we may see the Lumia 910 launch with a camera sensor close to the one found on the Nokia Lumia 900, a 4G LTE device headed to AT&T in March.

Right now, the Lumia 910 is where smart money should be, but it’s also possible that Nokia might throw a curveball at MWC.

A Windows 8 tablet perhaps?

We’ll see.

At this point though, all signs seem to point to some type of launch on February 27th and you can be sure that we’ll tell you all about whatever it ends up being.
