Huawei to Introduce 10-Inch Tablet, Quad-Core Android Smartphone at MWC?

Huawei may be set to introduce a 10-inch version of its MediaPad Android tablet and a quad-core Android smartphone in Barcelona, Spain towards the end of the month at Mobile World Congress. Leaked invitations to the members of the media indicate that Huawei may be kicking off the trade show with a product called the Ascend P Q and a MediaPad 10 tablet.

While details were not given about either products, there is speculations that the Q in the Ascend P Q moniker may represent ‘quad-core.’ The speculation was arrived by deduction as the slim Ascend P1 S had an ‘S’ in its name, which could be represented for ‘slim.’

Additionally, as the company only has a 7-inch slate in the form of the MediaPad–available as the MediaPad on AT&T in the U.S. and re-branded as the T-Mobile Springboard for T-Mobile USA’s network–a MediaPad 10 would help Huawei expand its tablet offering. The MediaPad 7 showed that Huawei was ready to enter the big leagues as the device offered solid build quality with an unibody aluminum shell, high resolution display, and 4G HSPA+ connectivity in an attractive form factor. The device does bear a passing resemblance to Apple’s iPad 1 or even the iPhone 4 at a cursory glance.

The recently announced Ascend P1 S smartphone, introduced just last month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, shows that Huawei is serious about breaking free of its entry-level budget mobile reputation. Not only did the Ascend P1 S come with an attractive design, but it also has the specs and hardware to back up the phone’s good looks, including dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU, qHD high resolution display, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. The Ascend P1 S out-slims the Droid RAZR and also has a smaller bezel area around the 4.3-inch display which allows the device to have a smaller footprint than Motorola’s offering.
