Instagram’s Android Release Not That Close After All

Published

on

We can’t wait for the Instagram Android to launch so we can enjoy all of those popular iPhone photography and sharing features found in the app. So we were excited to see that a notification for Instagram for Android appeared on a Galaxy Tab in early February, but it looks like the imminent launch was too good to be true.

Sadly, Instagram for Android doesn’t seem any closer than it was in December when Instagram confirmed that it was working on a version for Android.

Android Police had the keen eyes to notice that the screenshot which had all of us so excited about an impending launch was actually a spam ad pushed by one of the many crappy apps using AirPush to put notification in your notification panel. Sure enough, if you look at the notification bar logo, you’ll see the familiar icon used by AirPush and other malicious advertiser and app creator.

Instagram for AndroidJust like the fake Pinterest app for Android we called out this month, the Instagram for Android app does not exist, or if it did, the app was a fake one, designed to push more ads to your Android.

If you aren’t familiar with Instagram, it is an awesome photography app that lets you add filters to your iPhone photos and share them with other Instagram users or out to social networks like Facebook and Twitter. There are plenty of cool photography apps available, but Instagram can’t come to Android fast enough.

While you wait, check out these Android photography apps to help you take better photographs and have fun with filters until Instagram for Android arrives.

These ads are not Airpush – all Airpush ads clearly marked with an opt-out link and the name of the source app sending the ad.

The opt-out link on airpush doesn’t even work. it tells you to download another app in order to stop the ads.

Yeah – I’ve seen a few articles that also bashed airpush and every one of them so far was NOT very well researched.

This guy, ‘Josh Smith’, didn’t have any of his facts right. I’m learning that airpush is an advertising company and doesn’t actually make apps. Developers make apps. What does this guy expect, that developers give it away for free without any advertising?

Well, my comment was actually supposed to be about the article being very negative and pessimist and probably could be responsible for legal liable however after reading the comments and doing a bit of research on my own, perhaps the writer should simply give up his bias and tell how he really feels.

Keep it on the iPhone. No need for androiders to taint the community.

That isn’t for you to decide. If a user is going to use Instagram on android, most likely they will be of the same mentality as an iPhone user, therefore non “tainting” the community. I am a long time iPhone Instagram user, and just recently switched to an Android device, so I am looking to continue being a member of the Instagram community. I don’t see how this, or any new Android user can be considered “tainting” the community.
