Will the HTC Jewel Be Sprint’s HTC EVO LTE?

At Mobile World Congress 2012, HTC introduced the HTC One X smartphone for AT&T. It also announced the HTC One S for T-Mobile. Surprisingly absent was a device for Sprint, the carrier that helped make HTC a household name with the launch of the HTC EVO 4G in 2010. Fortunately, it seems that HTC hasn’t forgotten about its partner in crime as rumors of 4G LTE HTC EVO have sprouted today in the form of a device called the HTC Jewel.

The HTC EVO 4G is almost two years old. That means that EVO owners who have stuck it out will be coming off-contract. In addition, the HTC EVO 3D is closing in on one year old. And that means that it’s time for another EVO on release.

Both of those phones launched in the summer after reveals at CTIA and it’s possible that this new HTC Jewel could see the same type of launch. What’s more, is that the Jewel is rumored to be one of Sprint’s premier 4G LTE devices.

Will the HTC Jewel Be Sprint's HTC EVO LTE?

If you recall, Sprint will have its 4G LTE network up by the middle of 2012. Of course, it already has two phones lined up for launch in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the LG Viper.

HTC will almost certainly be a part of that equation as well and we can’t think of a better way to inject itself into that battle then with a high-end HTC EVO that sports 4G LTE speeds.

Unfortunately, details about the HTC Jewel are murky.

It is apparently a large phone and it’s said to sport a high-definition screen.

That’s it.

We expect to hear quite a bit more about this mysterious device in the weeks ahead but before we let it be, we have to ask.

Would you buy a Sprint HTC EVO LTE?

I hope Sprint doesnt charge an extra 20.00 per month for LTE that doesnt exist yet. Evo was a great phone but that 10.00 per month for a service that was available in my area rubbed me the wrong way.

I had the Evo, now I am using this Iphone that i can’t wait to get rid of.  I just can’t find anything to replace the Evo that I miss very very much ……….

I loved my EVO 4G but love my EVO 3D more……wonder what comes next ? BTW I can never pull in the 4G so don’t bother turning it on anymore and with 4 Smartphones on our Sprint account we are out $40 additional each month ,

BTW folks, the $10 was not for 4G service, it was for premium data, basically because your smartphone uses more data than a dumbphone so it was a way for Sprint to keep the data unlimited.

It didn’t start out that way.  Sprint changed the name of the fee to curb mass hysteria.  We had unlimited data on smart phones looooong before the Evo came out.  The fee was added because the evo was the first 4G phone.  Period.

I really like the phone that is 3D EVO HTC but I don’t like the way they say , that it has 4G net n it works real good. In fact it does not catches 4G net all the places n we don’t have time to go search 4G net by carrying our cell on the street or in stores. So, it will be far better to the Sprint phone company to provide 4G net all over the country rather than coming up with new n advance phone . Raelity of every thing test bitter but it has better harvest.

Wow ! That would b an awesome phone . I’ve had my evo since it came out . And I still love it ! I’m always changing it up with different roms !

I had the EVO and now the EVO 3D. I probably will AFTER 4G LTE is up and running. and yes, the orginal $10 charge was for the 4G, they changed it later to encompass all smart phones and said it was for the premium data. If i thought US Cellular had a good line up of phones, I would look to switch carriers. I am due for upgrades, but why upgrade to another 4G phone that will never get 4G?

    • gda says

Because it will get 4G. You can check out the cities already announced this year. Also the plan is to have 4G LTE wherever Sprint has a native signal.

Evo has the best hardware among any phone just think about it Verizon phones have great software but their phones look like shit. They maybe look closely the same but they are not which makes the evo unique and much better.
