HD Movies And TV Coming To Samsung Galaxy Note Media Hub

Published

on

If you’ve ever poked your head into Samsung’s Media Hub on the Galaxy Note you may have noticed that all of the movies and TV episodes on offer are in standard definition (SD) and not HD. That’s sad-making since the Note has an HD resolution and a large, gorgeous display that’s perfect for watching media.

The reason behind this is DRM. It’s the reason behind everything horrible in life.

But there is good news. Samsung announced that they’re going to issue a firmware update to the Galaxy Note in the near future that will allow the phone to play HD content and satisfy the paranoia of the content owners around DRM.

Samsung did not announce a firm date for this update or even a timeframe, just that we’d know at a future date. I suppose knowing it will happen is better than thinking it never will?

You don’t need to rely on MediaHub for HD video entertainment. Some movies in the Android Market are HD, though not very many.

The Galaxy Note is only the first of Samsung’s devices to get this firmware upgrade. Other phones and tablets with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors will also work with the stringent DRM requirements. Expect this to roll out on newly announced tablets as well.

If this is to happen then nobody will require television to watch any movie or anything else.
