Galaxy Note Proves Big Screens Can Sell

Published

on

On February 19th, AT&T released the 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Note, the 5.3-inch device that is part phone and part tablet. And while it’s still unclear how many units AT&T has sold, Samsung for its part has revealed in comments to Forbes that it has sold more than two million Galaxy Note’s since the device launched back in October of 2011.

What this means is that Sammy has pushed more than a million Galaxy Note’s since the end of last year. The company revealed, right at the end of 2011, that it had sold over one million in the two months that it had been available.

The arrival of the Galaxy Note has been met with mixed reactions.

Here at GBM, we gave it a great review citing its large, high resolution display, comfortable and attractive design and those extremely fast data speeds that the device can pull down on AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

4G LTE, after all, offers data speeds that can get up to 10 times faster than those found on a typical 3G network.

If there is one thing that critics can agree on is that it’s, well, a big device.

The Galaxy Note sports a 5.3-inch display that offers 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. It’s powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It also employs a stylus called the S-Pen that allows users to write or draw or perform a variety of other clever functions, which you can see in the video below.

Many wondered how the Galaxy Note would perform on the market after other large phones, like the Dell Streak 5 and Streak 7, failed to gain any traction amongst consumers. And while it’s too early to call the Galaxy Note a success, especially the version found on AT&T, it seems that the device has been able to carve out a niche for itself.

Samsung is hoping that it reaches more than just a niche though as it says that it expects to sell more than 10 million Galaxy Note’s by the end of 2012.
