Nokia Windows 8 Tablet Pegged for Q4

There have been more than a few whispers concerning  the possibility of a Nokia Windows 8 tablet in 2012 and those rumors have picked up more steam today in the form of a report from Digitimes that states that a tablet from Nokia, running Microsoft’s software, will be arriving in late 2012. While earlier rumors pegged the device as arriving in June, this report states that it will likely well beyond summer.

Nokia is said to have already begun work on the tablet, a tablet that is rumored to feature a 10-inch display and Qualcomm’s new S4 Snapdragon dual-core processor.

The Finnish company has apparently outsourced the production work to Compal and the first shipment should total around 200,000.

When asked about the tablet market in the past, Nokia executives have said that the company still evaluating the market and that it would not bring such a product to the market unless it offered a unique and valued experience to consumers.

Nokia has forged a partnership with Microsoft and its Windows operating system. It has already announced several Lumia-branded Windows Phones around the world, with two of them, the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, already available in the United States.

And while the companies phones seem to have gotten off to a great start, they could face stiffer competition in the tablet market, a market that is currently dominated by the iPad and to a lesser extent, Android.

Apple just launched its new iPad, of which pre-orders have already sold out, and Google might be gearing up to launch a Nexus tablet – possibly made by Asus, later on this year.

Amazon is also rumored to be bringing a new tablet or two to the table in 2012.

However, Windows 8 looks extremely promising and we know that Nokia is capable of making hardware that stands up with the best of them so this could definitely be an intriguing release, if it indeed happens.
