Asus Transformer Prime’s “Awesome” Update Revealed

Published

on

Yesterday, Asus announced that it was going to be bringing “new awesome features” to its quad-core tablet, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, through an upcoming firmware update. Asus is top-notch when it comes to support for their devices so we were inclined to be believe them. Right now, it seems like we made the right call as Asus Italy has revealed the features in a Facebook post.

So, what’s new and awesome coming to the Transformer Prime?

Let’s take a look.

Asus Transformer Prime’s “Awesome” Update Revealed

First off, it’s going to bring Face Unlock to the Transformer Prime, one of the new features of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – an update that it already has, I might add. Face Unlock will do exactly what one might think it does. It allows users to unlock the device by using their face. It’s a borderline gimmick but it might prove beneficial for some Transformer Prime owners.

The update will also bring the updated Android Market – now known as the Google Play Store – as well as the other Play services including Books and Music, a way for Asus to improve the camera in the future, a new lock screen notification control, and the ability to switch between portrait and landscape when the device is hooked up to an HDMI-port on a TV.

In addition, Asus Vibe will be updated from Vibe 1.0 to 2.0 which will bring a better interface and more content. It’ll also now be compatible with USB-to-Ethernet UX cables.

That’s a pretty substantial update if we don’t say so ourselves and it should give Transformer Prime owners a reason to be excited.

So, when is it coming exactly?

Asus Italy says March 29th but that doesn’t mean it will hit every device that day. Instead, it’s safe to assume that we might be in for a staggered roll out across the globe.

We’ll let you know when we hear some more dates.
