Nicki Minaj Promotes Nokia’s New Windows Phone Using a BlackBerry

Published

On Sunday, Nokia kicked off a huge promotion for its Lumia 900, the first 4G LTE Windows Phone to launch in the United States. The spectacle included a light show and a concert by performer Nicki Minaj in Times Square, all done to promote the launch of the new phone. Well, turns out, at least one person in attendance wasn’t interested in Nokia’s new device. Guess who?

Nicki Minaj herself.

CrackBerry has dug up a tweet from the singer talking about how great the event was, even dropping Nokia’s name.

Whoops: Nicki Minaj Promotes Windows Phone Using a BlackBerry

Problem is, the singer tweeted her message out using a BlackBerry device, not a new Nokia Lumia 900. Or even a Windows Phone for that matter. You would think, that after spending all of this money on this kind of event, that one of these companies would put a Lumia 900 in her hands to use.

If even for the night.

I shudder at the thought of how much Minaj was paid for the performance that included LED billboards as a backdrop and the remix of one of the singer’s latest songs.

This combined with the fact that Nokia had one, count it, one table showing off the Lumia 900 and it’s easy to see why Xavier thought the whole debacle was a complete miss for Nokia.

And Windows Phone.

And for Microsoft.

And right now is not when the company should be missing.

The Windows Phone platform is in prime position to solidify itself as the number three OS in the world with RIM’s BlackBerry clearly faltering. It needs to attract consumers.

But spectacles such as this, where the focus is not on the product but on a person, and a person that fails to promote what she’s supposed to be promoting, isn’t helping the cause.

Such dumb, pointless journalism these articles are. You and Xavier need to find some actual stories to reprt on….

I can understand how this happens. You put the phone in Nicki’s hands… But not in the hands of the handler who actually runs the Twitter account. Several celebs do their own tweets, but most of them have some kind of help.

That’s a good point Ike. I’d be surprised if she tweets herself.
