New iPad Arrives in Nine More Countries
Apple’s new third-generation iPad has launched in nine new countries today bringing its availability up to 57 total markets around the world.
First launched back in March, Apple’s new iPad has, once again, helped Apple to outpace every other tablet on the market with the company selling nearly 12 million iPads last quarter.
It’s unclear how many new iPad’s Apple sold exactly but the Cupertino-based company said that it sold three million of them in its first three days.
Sales in Apple’s second fiscal quarter represented a 151 percent increase over the same quarter in 2011, a sign that sales of the device are not slowing.

New countries where the third-generation iPad is now available include Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand. This is the fastest international iPad rollout so far. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the company did a better job building up inventory and churning out units since launching the new iPad compared to the past two years.
Pricing will differ based on the country but Apple’s suggested retail price is $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model all the way up to $829 for the Wi-Fi + 4G LTE 64GB iPad.
At the moment, 4G LTE though is only supported by U.S. and Canadian carriers.
The new iPad trumps the iPad 2 in just about every way possible, introducing a high-resolution Retina Display, a new dual-core A5X processor with quad-core graphics, an iSight rear camera capable of taking better photos and video, and the same great battery life that iPad owners have grown to love.
Apple’s new iPad only stands to get better as Apple will surely be updating it with iOS 6, an operating system that the company will likely be showing off this summer at the World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Apple’s iPad continues to dominate the tablet market. Competitors are still struggling to capture meaningful marketshare. The best selling Android tablet is Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which accounts for 54% of the Android tablet marketshare. A big part of the Kindle Fire’s appeal is that it sells for just $199, less than half the cost of the new iPad. Unlike the iPad, the Kindle Fire is only available in the United States.
