Angry Birds Downloaded More Than 1 Billion Times

Through four different iterations of the game on a multitude of platforms Rovio announced today that users downloaded Angry Birds more than 1 billion times.

Rovio made the announcement in a short, 20 second video thanking all of its fans for downloading the game so many times. The 1 billion downloads comes from all versions of the game including the original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Season, Angry Birds Rio, and the newest Angry Birds Space.

The end of the video seem to give a hint of what Rovio has planned for its next game, with the video telling us that “more exciting things are coming soon!” From the image at the end of the video it looks like the game could involve a blonde-haired boy with an interest in Rube Goldberg Machines.

The news comes shortly after Rovio announced Angry Birds Space is the fastest growing mobile game. The new game only account for 50 million of the 1 billion downloads, but it certainly helped Rovio reach the milestone faster.

According to The Verge, more than half of the 1 billion downloads came last year. In 2011 Angry Birds was downloaded more than 648 million times across all versions and devices.  Simply put, the numbers are staggering.

We can’t wait to see what Rovio has planned next. We hope it will be just as fun and addictive as Angry Birds. Okay, maybe we can deal without the addictive nature of the game, we do still need to get some work done.
