LG Optimus Elite Pre-Orders Sold Out at Virgin Mobile

Published

on

Last week, Virgin Mobile put up a pre-order for its first phone with Near-Field Communication support, a device called the LG Optimus Elite. Well, it appears that Virgin might have a hit on its hands as pre-orders for the Optimus Elite has sold out ahead of its launch.

The carrier’s website reveals that pre-orders have all been accounted for by eager customers who not only want NFC on their Virgin smartphone but also want a cheap off-contract phone.

Customers can then pair the device with Virgin’s Beyond Talk unlimited data and messaging plans starting at $35 per month.

LG Optimus Elite Pre-Orders Sold Out at Virgin MobileVirgin doesn’t offer pure unlimited data though. It has begun to throttle data of those going over a 2.5GB data threshold. Those who exceed that cap will see data slowed to a 256Kbps crawl.

Virgin is selling the Optimus Elite for a mere $150 off-contract. Yes, that is its off-contract price. It doesn’t have any mind-blowing specifications but it certainly is appealing to those that don’t want to sign a contract and want to use a phone that’s compatible with mobile payment services like Google Wallet.

The NFC chip embedded inside the device allows users to merely tap their phone at NFC supported merchants in order to pay for goods.

The LG Optimus Elite will feature Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, an 800MHz processor, and a 5 mega-pixel rear facing camera. It will also have access to the Google Play Store for applications.

Virgin Mobile will be launching the phone tomorrow, May 15th, and while pre-orders are sold out, we’d be surprised if Virgin didn’t offer up some more devices on launch day.

Be quick though, those might sell out too.
