LG Optimus Elite Launches on Virgin Mobile

The LG Optimus Elite, Virgin Mobile’s first Android smartphone with Near-Field Communication support, has launched today on the carrier for a cool $149.99.

Yesterday, the carrier was depleted of its pre-order stock but it appears that the phone is back in stock for those that are hoping to get a hold of the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered smartphone.

Clearly, there are more than a few people intrigued by this device and there is good reason for that. It not only has an NFC chip embedded inside of it for use with mobile payment services like Google Wallet, but it also has a cheap $149.99 price tag which checks in off-contract.

Virgin Mobile doesn’t require customers to sign up for a contract which makes this $149.99 price is extremely attractive.

Of course, the phone is not going to blow consumers away with its specs but it’s a solid device for those not looking for a heavy hitting smartphone.

The LG Optimus Elite will feature Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, an 800MHz processor, and a 5 mega-pixel rear facing camera. It will also have access to the Google Play Store for applications.

Customers can then pair the device with Virgin’s Beyond Talk unlimited data and messaging plans starting at $35 per month.

Virgin doesn’t offer pure unlimited data though. It has begun to throttle data of those going over a 2.5GB data threshold. Those who exceed that cap will see data slowed to a 256Kbps crawl.

While there is stock right now, it’s certainly possible that the carrier will sell out of the device once again so those interested will want to place an order sooner rather than later.
