HTC Sensation 4G Ice Cream Sandwich Update Now Available

Published

on

As expected, T-Mobile has unleashed the HTC Sensation 4G Android 4.0 Ice Cream update and users who wish to download the new software can now pull the update manually.

Today was the day that T-Mobile promised to deliver the software and thankfully, the carrier delivered on that promise. Android 4.0 is now available for the HTC Sensation 4G and it brings a host of new features along with it..

Those looking to get the upgrade will want to go into the settings on their phone and head to the About section in order to check for upgrades. Once the inquiry is made, users should be prompted by a download.

Before downloading, users should also be aware that there is a catch to this update.

After installing Android 4.0, T-Mobile will begin to enforce its $15 per month tethering policy. Those HTC Sensation 4G owners out there who have been enjoying free mobile hotspot support will lose that ability once the update is installed. So, for those that wish to keep free tethering, the best bet is to stay on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Of course, that means losing out on the features that come with Android 4.0.

Those include:

New Features

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked.
  • Data usage controls.
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life
  • Note: HTC Sensation 4G will be required to add Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature in order to use the service after completing this update.

Improvements

  • Improved text input and spell checking
  • Improved menu structure

Even with the tethering caveat, it’s an upgrade worth considering, especially because it’s free.

Hate it. It isn’t faster, and when you switch between aps. It takes almost half a minute to refresh/load. Some of the features are neat, but I miss the old version. I now regret downloading this!

Reset your phone. It made my update perfect and operate with no flaws. Good luck

I love the update. It was. Slightly choppy at first but I decided to factor reset my phone which I did (twice in a row) and its totally different and much smoother. I strongly recommend to factory reset and give it a try.

It’s killing my battery. THe GPS stays on whether or not you have a GPS app enabled and it drains the battery. So far the only thing I can seem to do is turn of all locations settings and then re-enable when I need to use the map app. Total pain in the nadz.

I downloaded it yesterday and it makes my phone seem like it is new again. The biggest thing I have seen so far is the battery life of my phone. My phone was only lasting about 12 hours before the battery indicator would turn amber letting me know my battery was almost dead; now my phone has been on battery for over 15 hours and has only dropped by 9%. I can’t wait to see how long it is going to last before I have to recharge it. I also noticed that my movie playing app will play my movies in hardware decoder mode smoothly now and the screen rotates really smooth when I turn the phone sideways. So far I am absolutely loving this update with no down side for me yet, I always paid for the tethering feature anyway.

    Hello!
I updated my HTC Sensation to the Ice Cream System. I can’t open, nor enable my facebook account. It tells me that unfortunately google play is not accessible. Please advise!

    Thanks!

I can’t access WiFi when my sim is inserted after the update :(
I have to remove the sim, factory reset and then it works :(
Believe me, I’ve tried everything else
