Motorola Teases Droid RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Published

on

Motorola isn’t slated to roll out the Droid RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of June. However, that hasn’t stopped it from teasing Android 4.0 for its device.

Over the weekend Motorola Japan, courtesy of Droid-Life, posted a video showing off how Ice Cream Sandwich, Google’s latest mobile operating system, will look on the Droid RAZR.

The company also posted a second video that showcases the new Webtop 3.0 user interface that will be coming along with the software.

Read: Motorola Droid Bionic Won’t Get Ice Cream Sandwich Until Q3.

This is the first time we’ve seen the official update in action though leaked versions of the software have been making the rounds for quite some time.

Android 4.0 Introduction

Until we’re able to spend sometime with the update, we’ll reserve judgement on how MotoBlur and Android 4.0 interact with each other but from the videos, it looks like Motorola has tried pretty hard to create a seamless experience.

Webtop 3.0 UI

The software doesn’t seem to be too inundated with Motorola’s UI which means there should be quite a bit of Ice Cream Sandwich to enjoy.

There are also videos, which can be seen below, that show off everything from the Face Unlock to taking and sharing screenshots with the Droid RAZR.

Motorola has announced that it will be bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to the Droid RAZR and its sibling, the Droid RAZR MAXX, sometime in Q2.

That means that the company has just over a month to make good on its promise as Q2 ends at the end of June.

And while we hope that Motorola provides a specific release date soon, we have a feeling that it will take the extra time to ensure that the experience on the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX are as close to flawless as they can be.

I have a Droid X that I purchased from Verizon right after it came out. I would love to upgrade to a Droid Razr Maxx but I wont do that if Verizon keeps up their stupid rules such as a new $30 upgrade fee and no more unlimited data plans for those that upgrade to a 4g phone. I hate Verizon. I want alltel back! I love Motorola and all their android products though. They are doing a great job with everything except for selling. They are better than Apple so why does everyone like apple so much?

Verizon does charge the $30 upgrade fee, but i was able to keep my unlimited data plan because I had it with my Droid X and it follows me as long as I am with Verizon.

Verizon never said “no more unlimited data plans for those that upgrade to a 4g phone”, they said “no more unlimited data plans for those that upgrade to a 4g phone AT A SUBSIDIZED PRICE”. Read articles, don’t browse them!

I agree with you on how stupid verizon is on their unlimited data. I have a Razr with unlimited because i had the Droid X the day it came out with unlimited. But you can still keep your unlimited data you just have to pay full retail on a new phone.

Well I just upgraded my Incredible 2 to a Razr Maxx yesterday at a subsidized price and was able to keep my unlimited data plan going from 3g to 4g, so I am not sure what everyone is complaining about.

So yes, at this point you still keep unlimited data when upgrading from 3g to 4g at this point…… I do agree that the $30 upgrade fee sucks though.

I upgraded to the Razr MAXX 2 weeks ago and I had their $30 upgrade fee. Called Verizon customer support and they said this was to offset the cost of phone aka a line of BS.

I use to sell Verizon for their Premium Retailers and the cost was always the same in terms of full retail price. This is just another excuse for Verizon to make money.

I did keep my unlimited data plan. What Joe is talking about has not been implemented yet if at all. Verizon is wanting to move family plans to a shared data plan which will cause even more revenue for them if users do not watch their data usage as a whole it would be easy for someone to use up most of their monthly data allowance causing others who are unaware to go over.
