I just bough the maxed out MBA 13 in February, so I will not upgrade now, but the 8Gb of RAM was the main thing I found missing from the MBA I have. I run Parallels and I have to admit it runs fine, but I felt like the 8Gb of RAM would extend the device an extra year or more of usefulness as the OS and apps get bigger.

I ordered a maxed out 8GB ram, 2-3.2 MHz, and 512GB memory 13 inch screen MacBook air the day they became available.

The new PowerBook looks tasty, but I do a lot of traveling and one of the biggest drivers for me was lightening bag weight without compromising performance. Hopefully my new beast will be man enough, and I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Hi Tony, how is that new MacBook Air. Iam looking at getting the same!
I too am needing a lighter computer to carry around, since I travel, but wasn’t sure if I needed to get 8 GB of RAM.

Hi Geo, Coming from a PC, the Mac OS itself took a while to get used to. But the only element that I’ve found not to be as good is the File Manager (it’s harder to find files with ‘Finder’ than it was with ‘Explorer’). The machine itself has been superb. I’m losing perspective now on how much time I’m saving with the near instant on. It’s just an incredibly easy, convenient, and classy bit of kit, as well as being much easier to cart around. I haven’t really needed the extra 4GB RAM yet, which didn’t cost that much for the extra piece of mind, and I’m not using the extra 256 GB storage, which did cost a lot. If I had my time again I buy the same, just without the extra storage.

You can do a comprehensive search on Spotlight by hitting Command Space.

Hi, thanks for the info Tony.
I was thinking the extra 4GB will come in handy (as programs continue to grow).
I am coming from an older MacBook (black) which is still very much alive and well after 5 years and 1 month. Through airporta and 3 continents, security lines and more. I never had any computer last me that long!
your happy with the weight, and say it is superb bit of kit, but is it tough enough?
But now I am unable to upgrade to Mountain Lion since the graphics processor is not compatible. They tell me Lion can be slow on my machine.
Sorry to hear you don’t do well with file. I personally like it and can even search by the word in the document and it comes up. Now scrolling through all the files that come up is a pain at times.
I think I will have to check the specs again and go with your recommendation of 8 GB and 256 memory.
    Thanks

    Hi Tony,
One question? How is the fan noise and heat temp on your MacBook Air. Was just reading something about that.

      Hi Geo,
I wouldn’t have any concerns; it runs completely silent, and the heat isn’t bad at all.

I just bought the same MBA as Tony, it will be shipping in a few days, but now I’m worried about my choice because of all the posts over the net, which say that the i7 core makes the fan totally noisy and the book really hot….

I also need to get lighter and smaller, but still have function. Does the new MacBook Air: 512GB SSD, USB 3, 8GB Memory have the capacity to run Parallels, Windows 7 for a specific need, plus Office for Mac?
