Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date Still Unclear

Published

on

Even though Verizon has said the software would be rolling out in June, the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich release date remains as mysterious as the Droid RAZR’s Android 4.0 release date.

A couple of days ago, a rumored release date for the Motorola Droid RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich update came and went without any sort of roll out. The worst part was, Verizon said that it did not yet have a roll out date for the software leaving customers in the dark and leaving the rest of June wide open.

Droid RAZR MAXX owners haven’t even been that lucky. They have been treading around in the dark since February, wondering when the update will arrive.

Update: The Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich update appears to be close.

Read: Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX Review.

There have been several possible dates that have passed by and none of them materialized. So, with each passing day, and with Verizon playing dumb, it seems as though the update might be rolling out towards the end of the month, if Verizon is even able to stick to its word.

In addition, we have yet to see any kind of a soak test roll out for the Droid RAZR MAXX, something that generally happens shortly before the update is set to roll out.

Clearly, this is not the situation that Droid RAZR MAXX owners envisioned when they bought the beast five months ago, especially when Motorola and Verizon promised to get the update out in the “coming weeks.”

If the updates are indeed rolling out in June, we expect to see something soon. For now though, Motorola and Verizon have decided to leave device owners in the dark, extremely close to the promised roll out date.

So, hang in there Droid RAZR MAXX owners, hopefully we see something materialize soon.

I bought my Razr Maxx about a month ago because I wanted to get a phone before Verizon eliminated its all-you-can-eat plan. Not that I eat that much, but I hate to feel constrained. Don’t tell me I can’t. But I was told then and read online that the release was imminent. I keep checking. And checking. And checking . . .

Just for clarity, the RAZR, and the MAXX are the exact same handset with the battery size being the difference between the two. Thus leaving the update the same for the two phones. And as such the update should arrive at the same time.

Ditto, I don’t understand why many of the blog sites treat them as different devices. There’s no reason, based on my understanding of the RAZR and MAXX, that they should ever diverge from each other on the Android tree.

Exactly. And I actually own both phones. There’s no difference except the software controlling the battery meter.

I am tired of waiting for the ICS upgrade, I left AT&T for this I rather pay the $350 termination fee and go back with AT&T as i look for good customer service and no BS.

Anyone else considering leaving Verizon as punishment for their absurd treatment in this?

It doesn’t matter if folks leave, its not going to make a difference to them,it would have to be a vast amount of people leaving to make a difference . But just for understanding on my part, what’s the big deal about this ICS anyway? Im not as phone savvy as some of you.

ICS is supposed provide an increase of performance, battery life, and features in comparison to phones currently on Gingerbread.

One of the biggest new features is the ability to deactivate an application … including those pesky ones that Verizon installs for you, and you can’t delete … so they can’t ever start, and won’t eat up bandwidth without you even knowing. The power saving features should help a lot too.

Really people? Leaving because you haven’t got the update yet? Verizon isn’t keeping any secrets from anyone. My uncle is an IT manager for Verizon and they usually find out about when these get distributed to the public THE DAY BEFORE RELEASE! Quit crying and acting like the phone is obsolete or not working because of a little delay for an update. Bunch of drama queens. They aren’t saying they have not date to hold it from us, they really have not clue!!

I agree with Justin – that’s a little extreme to pay a temination fee or and leave Verizon as punishment over the ICS update. I am also anxious to recieve it on my Maxx, especially since I’ve experienced the difference in performance and features going from the Gingerbread-based MIUI ROM to the ICS-based MIUI on my Droid X.
The update was promised by the end of this month – how about we be mature enough to practice patience at least until then?

So far they (Verizon) have not lied, per say. That said, they also have had their employees selling these phones with the promise of 4.0. Buying a phone at the end of 2011, and being told the OS update is imminent, and not delivering said update for another 7 months is unacceptable. Not sure of the legistics here, as I am not an attorney, but I believe that would constitute”false advertising”.
Furthermore, Verizon is not ignorant to the rumors that have been floating around the air waves. They choose not to respond, but let people get their panties in a bunch, and really piss people off. They are supposed to be a communications company, a little communication would go a long way.
As far as the early termination fee, that is less than the cost of 2 months of verizons service. One could by a phone at full cost, choose a lesser carrier, and end up saving money within a year. Small price to pay for a little gratification. Oh, and also have no locked bootloader, and enjoy freedom with the device they spent their hard earned money on.
Verizon is Consistently alienating their long time faithful customers with their increased cost, shady charges, and lack of public relations. If I were wrong, the smaller providers would not be increasing their profits by simply providing a(lesser) service, and not raping their customers. This kind of greed is exactly the thinking that got all the banks in trouble a few years back. Might I add, the fed.(Obama) was out of line by extending a hand to big business, that would not be extended to the average small business. God have mercy on these greedy Tyrants. But, that’s my opinion, as the saying goes “everyone has one”.

Just install the leak if you want it that bad. I have the ICS .209 leak on my Maxx and it is running perfectly. ICS on the Razr is simply beautiful. The leak will also allow you to update to the official release once the OTA drops.

    It’s coming eventually, hopefully soon.

Everyone gets their “panties in a bunch” because someone said “I talked to a Verizon rep and was told it would be released on X date….”. Stop spreading that rumor and let Verizon officially set the release date…..unless they state officially, DON’T REPOST IT!!!
