T-Mobile has announced that it will begin testing its upcoming 4G LTE network this summer which will pave way for the high-speed network’s launch in 2013.

The carrier outlined its plans in a blog post today saying that it plans to roll out equipment to its first 400 sites by the end of June and it will have a grand total of 2,500 equipped by the end of July.

Dave Mayo, T-Mobile’s senior vice president of technology, also said that the company has obtained approval for over 19,500 other sites that will get 4G LTE equipment in the future.

Mayo says that the roll out of the company’s 4G LTE network is still on track for next year and that the carrier will begin testing 4G LTE this summer.

T-Mobile has yet to give consumers any concrete date as far as when the network will officially launch. It has only gone as far as saying it will launch in 2013.

The carrier also announced that it is beginning to test more markets for its 4G HSPA+ service within the carrier’s 1900 MHz spectrum. T-Mobile already publicly revealed one test which took place outside Moscone West in San Francisco during WWDC and allowed iPhone users to get faster data speeds when using T-Mobile.

T-Mobile plans on introducing the service in a number of different United States cities later on this year. It did not reveal where or when unfortunately.

The carrier currently hosts more than a million iPhone users on its 2G network despite being the only one of the four major U.S. carriers not to offer Apple’s iconic smartphone. This roll out should make the device that much more appealing.
