RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system, which the company plans on bringing devices later this year, has surfaced in an extensive preview today.

Crackberry has gone hands-on with BlackBerry 10 giving BlackBerry enthusiasts and interested consumers a glimpse at RIM’s future.

The overview of BlackBerry 10 shows off everything from the homescreen to the software’s icon tray to its new unified Inbox to its never before seen Music player.

Keep in mind, this version of BlackBerry 10 is not final and things could change between now and the fall of 2012 when the company is expected to put its first consumer grade BlackBerry 10-powered smartphone on shelves.

While most of RIM’s previous BlackBerry devices sported a physical QWERTY keyboard, the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone will likely come with a virtual keyboard in place of the physical keyboard. The preview gives us a good look at what that might look like on a BlackBerry 10 handset.

RIM’s new virtual keyboard will come with predicative text where users will be able to flick up and pick out the appropriate words. We also get a glimpse at the software’s Music player which had remained a mystery until today.

All in all, the operating system looks like a vast departure from BlackBerry 7, which at this point, is a good thing. Of course, we’ll have to wait until the final product arrives later this year to pass final judgement on the software but so far, it looks like RIM has worked hard on producing something different.

The company isn’t expected to launch the first device until at least August of 2012 and it likely won’t release its first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical QWERTY keyboard until Q1. That means that it could  anywhere between January and March.

RIM has also said that BlackBerry 10 will not be coming to current BlackBerry phones which means those currently on BlackBerry 7 will be forever stuck on BlackBerry 7.

What do you think? Does BlackBerry 10 look like a winner? Or is RIM going to have to more to entice fans to buy back into BlackBerry?

If they truly want to distinguish themselves from all the android phones, and iOS, they should release the keyboard version FIRST! Otherwise, they will just be compared to all the other fully touchscreen devices out there. I think this is a mistake RIM!

No doubt, I want to see a slimmed down torch with better build quality and CPU. All of those HTC, Samsung, and LG phones look similar with massive screens not very impressed. That market is already saturated with that type of device.

Looks a lot like Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) to me. Law suits here we come.

Honestly? Looks lovely, and if this is powered by QNX like the PlayBook, it’s going to be gorgeous! Sign me up!

hopefully with all these new multi-tasking screens plus advance 8 to 10 mega pixel camara with a front camara can be an obsolute iphone and android terminater! Also a Berry version of Siri with a similiar commands, 4g compatible, and great battery life, blackberry can rise from all competitors… they will retain and gain their customers along with new customers as well. this is the moment when blackberry rises again

I really don’t think it will be that hard for Blackberry to get back on top because every one I know that owns a Droid hates it, but they just don’t have anything that they would rather use. Kind of silly really. I mean how many times have you herd someone say “I love my Droid” ? Yeah that’s because doesn’t happen.

This is bb’s last chance at bat. Either they get a hit or I’m gone.

I think the key here is that there are literally tens of millions of users stuck at the office with Blackberries. This to me, as a business device looks fantastic. A real leap forward with the hub and flow. As a user forced to have a blackberry for work (I have a personal iphone4) this looks to blend my two devices, given the BB10 will give me pretty much what my iphone gives me, and I don’t pay for the BB, then bye bye iphone. This market, I would imagine, is pretty large. All those companies invested in BB servers and security won’t balk at this. What I don’t know is how many companies have switched, but it hasn’t been that long yet, contracts are still in place. My company ( pretty large company) is still dishing out brand new Bolds.
