According to a report from China Times, by way of Focus Taiwan and iClairified, Foxconn’s CEO Terry Gou stated that the iPhone 5 would put the Samsung Galaxy S III, which arrives in the United States tomorrow, to shame.
He also essentially confirmed that the iPhone 5 is coming, something that has been heavily rumored throughout 2012.
Gou made the quote while ripping Samsung, a competitor of Foxconn’s that Gou has vowed to defeat saying that the company has a “track record of snitching on its competitors.” Gou believes that Foxconn’s alliance with Sharp will help the company to defeat Samsung in roughly three to five years.
Here is what Gou is quoted as saying:
Gou also urged consumers to wait for the launch of Apple’s iPhone 5, saying that the new model will put Samsung’s Galaxy III to shame. With Hon Hai’s marketing and manufacturing strengths and Sharp’s key technologies, the two will be able to defeat their arch-rival Samsung, the chairman said.
The Samsung Galaxy S III is Samsung’s new flagship smartphone that launched at the end of May and is just now heading to carriers in the United States. Already, the demand for the smartphone has been high with Samsung taking upwards of nine million pre-orders that have led to the company dealing with supply issues that have affected the device’s North American launch.
AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile have had to temper their Samsung Galaxy S III launches due to the high demand. That being said, it’s clear that Samsung’s device is appealing to customers not just in North America, but around the globe as well.
It helps that it has got a bit of a head start on the iPhone 5 as well, a device that Gou and better yet, Apple, hope will beat the Samsung Galaxy S III in sales.
iPhone 5 Release Date & Rumors
The iPhone 5 is heavily rumored to be making its debut this fall after the device failed to appear at Apple’s annual WWDC conference in San Francisco. September and October are currently rumored to be possible launch months for the device although analysts and rumors can’t seem to agree on one.
If Apple follows its cycle, the iPhone 5 release date will likely occur in October. Apple launched the iPhone 4S in October of last year. It launched iOS 5 shortly before it launched the device itself.
We expect Apple to launch its latest operating system, iOS 6, shortly before the iPhone 5 as well.
While we still don’t know what the iPhone 5 looks like, below is a video that seems to match up nicely with the iPhone 5 that we have seen show up in iPhone 5 renders.
The video shows a taller iPhone, a change that Apple is rumored to have made in order to bump up the screen size to 4-inches. The iPhone 5 is rumored to have a larger screen than the 3.5-inch iPhones of the past.
It’s also rumored to have 4G LTE data speeds, a faster processor, and a thinner design.
