Sony Xperia S Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolling Out Now

Published

on

Sony promised the Sony Xperia S Ice Cream Sandwich update for the second quarter of 2012 and right on schedule, the Sony Xperia S Ice Cream Sandwich update has begun to roll out.

The company has announced that the Xperia S Android 4.0 is rolling out now but availability will depend on carriers. So those who own an Xperia S on a specific carrier might be waiting a bit to see a notification about ICS’ arrival.

The roll out will continue over the next couple of weeks so those that don’t see the update today will want to remain patient.

Sony has packed the update with a bunch of features, not including the features that will be coming along with Ice Cream Sandwich itself.

Those features include:

  • The “WALKMAN” application blends the best of signature Sony audio technology with social features; to discover the music your friends like and share personal favorites. Facebook integration gives you a visual way to interact with content – accessing album art, artist images and information, directly from Gracenote®
  • The “Album” application brings new intuitive ways to sort and browse high quality photos and videos in blazing speed, as well as providing instant viewing, commenting and sharing of photos on Facebook and other online albums, leveraging the great camera capabilities of Xperia S
  • The “Movies” application streamlines the playback and viewing of movies in high quality audio and video, whilst using intelligent database search to grab movie posters and information for a richer experience

Again, those come additional to the Ice Cream Sandwich features like lock screen with Face Unlock, re-sizable widgets, a Recent Apps button and more. All in all, it looks like a fantastic update for Sony Xperia S owners

Sony says that the update is massive, it sits at around 200MB, so that means the installation process could take some time for those that do have access to the software right now.

The Sony Xperia S is currently not available on any carriers in the United States, but it will be launching as the Sony Xperia Ion on AT&T’s 4G LTE network in the near future.
