While Google has not yet provided a release date for the Nexus 7 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet, it appears that the official launch of the device is close.

The shipping dates for the Nexus 7 have moved from 3-4 weeks through Google’s website to 1-2 weeks which seems to point to a release date fast approaching.

Google has yet to announce an official roll out date for the Nexus 7 tablet other than to say it would arrive in the middle part of July.

In addition, Droid-Life has posted an image that seems to indicate that Office Depot will start selling the Nexus 7 starting on July 12th with a pre-sale starting today.

The Nexus 7 release date appears imminent.

Those who pre-order their devices through Office Depot won’t see their devices ship until July 12th. So, it appears that July 12th, this Thursday, might wind up being the Nexus 7’s official release date across the board. If true, we expect confirmation of that date to arrive tomorrow at the latest.

Google first announced the Nexus 7 tablet at Google I/O at the end of June. The device will be in direct competition with the Amazon Kindle Fire and it will be competing for the hearts and minds of consumers who are interested in the iPad as well.

Apple is rumored to be releasing its own 7-inch iPad Mini later on this year.

The Nexus 7 features a 7-inch display that will feature 1280×800 resolution. It will feature a Tegra 3 quad-core processor from NVIDIA. It also features a front-facing camera for video chatting purposes, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth support, and up to 9 hours of HD video.

When it goes on sale, the Nexus 7 will be available in two variants including a 8GB Nexus 7 for $199 and a larger 16GB Nexus 7 for $249.

I really hope that those that pre-ordered from the store get their units first. It would be really frustrating to be waiting for my delivery knowing that I could drive a few blocks to Staples or Office Depot and pick one up.

Staples still has the ship date as between July 12th and 17th. The website also says that it is “Sold Out.” Which I guess means that they have reached their pre-order allotment. At Staples it’s delivery only but they can send it to a store to pick it up.
