Antenova LTE Antenna Brings Us Closer to Global LTE Devices

The problem with the emerging 4G LTE mobile broadband technology that drives faster Internet speeds on mobile smartphones and tablet devices today is that there are so many different bands and frequencies used by different countries and carriers. As a result, manufacturers would have to customize their 4G LTE devices to specific regions and the possibility of global roaming right now is nowhere to be found. Enter Antenova, a company whose antenna is promised to bring near global compatibility between various different LTE networks and deliver to consumers the hope of global roaming. With multi-modal GSM/HSPA/CDMA/EVDO/LTE devices in the U.S. running Antenova’s antenna, this means that it may be just as easy to bring an unlocked LTE smartphone from AT&T to Verizon Wireless, for example.

According to Unwired Viewthe Cambridge, UK based company’s A10453 antenna is unique in that it doesn’t require “switches or tunable active components,” and the antenna will work on the following bands: LTE 700, LTE B7 (2.5-2.69GHz), LTE B38 (2.57-2.62GHz), and LTE B40 (2.3-2.4GHz), GSM 850, GSM 900, DCS 1800, PCS 1900, and WCDMA2100. There are still a few bands missing, but the coverage here is comprehensive and gives us hope that one phone can be used on multiple networks should you become displeased with your carrier and want to switch down the road.

This solution may help Apple develop one 4G LTE smartphone and launch in globally without having to cater to specific markets, which is similar to what Apple is currently doing for the 3G-capable iPhone 4S right now.
