Sprint 4G LTE Arrives Early in Four More Cities

Published

on

Sprint 4G LTE has arrived early in three more launch cities just a day ahead of its official release date.

According to S4GRU, Sprint has stopped blocking 4G LTE access in three more markets including Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, Texas. It appears that those who own Sprint 4G LTE devices in and around Austin and Waco are seeing access to Sprint’s new network as well.

The news comes shortly after Sprint 4G LTE access arrived early for those toting Sprint 4G LTE devices in Kansas City, another Sprint 4G LTE launch city.

We’re also hearing from users in Atlanta who claim that 4G LTE access is available.

Sprint 4G LTE is now live in three more cities.

4G LTE device owners in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio who are in possession of a HTC EVO 4G LTE, Samsung Galaxy Nexus or LG Viper 4G LTE should now be able to pull down data speeds that can reach up to 10 times faster than Sprint’s CDMA 3G network.

Since the launch of those devices, owners have only had access to the network’s aging 3G network.

Sprint’s new network is so wide open and new and means that owners should expect to be able to pull down some impressive data speeds. The speeds might not be on par with the speeds that we saw weeks ago which were 25 times faster than normal 3G but they should be fast nonetheless.

The video below showing off AT&T and Verizon 4G LTE data speeds should give customers an idea of what to expect in the future.

Tomorrow is the day that Sprint will officially be launching 4G LTE in five markets in the United States and the carrier should be lighting up more markets in the U.S. ahead of the launch of the iPhone 5 this fall, a device that is rumored to have 4G LTE on board.

Anyone seeing access?

Dallas here — I’m not seeing anything different yet. Galaxy Nexus. I just changed my network from “CDMA” to “LTE/CDMA” and speed tests remain the same — no 4G indicator on the status bar. Wonk wonk…

Dallas here. 4G LTE enabled since early this morning. Download/upload speeds (SpeedTest) are sadly disappointing, inconsistent and unreliable. We’ll we ever see anything higher 5 Mbps that I was obtaining with my 4G WIMAX connection on Sprint? I do hope so, else Samsung SIII is going back to Sprint and my HTC EVO 4G will be making a comeback.

I’m seeing between 12-15Mbps down and about 9-10Mbps up in Kansas City on my Galaxy Nexus.

Don’t have a 4G LTE device, but Sprint has turned on Enhanced 3G since my iPhone 4S gets about 1 mbps down compared to 0.03 mbps it used to get a few days ago.

Marietta/Kennesaw/Acworth area of Georgia. 4G is enabled. High speeds for me. About 10 mbs down/4 mbs up which is plenty fast enough for the needs of a phone. Signal isn’t consistent yet tho, did PRL update and 4G indicator pops up but only stays connected 30 min at most then goes away.

I live in Atlanta (about 4 miles from downtown) and as of 1:30 pm EST I’ve got nothing to indicate 4G LTE…just plain ‘ol 3G.

Try this: FIRST: you MUST go into settings and turn on CDMA/LTE (check your LTE handset instructions for how to do this). 2nd: You have to update PRL. I had intermittant 4G IN Atlanta and nothing at all from Suwanne to Lithia Springs. I-285 seemed to be the cut off for 4G for me but even when I had it is was 3G speed. I’m using my Epic 4G (WiMax) and it’s faster then my Samsung S3!

Thanks for the info, but I tried all this. I updated everything, ensured my setting was on LTE/CDMA, re-started, shut down. Went to sprint and typed in my phone (Evo 4G LTE) and address to ensure I’m not in an Atlanta deadzone. Everything says I should have it, except reality. Pretty disappointed.

Mansfield Texas getting Max download at 25 mb, slowest I have seen is 6 mb

FIRST: you MUST go into settings and turn on CDMA/LTE (check your LTE handset instructions for how to do this). 2nd: You have to update PRL. Once I did those two things I got 4G. Admittedly I was in SW Atlanta even then I had TERRIBLE connection and it was in and out of 4G. Speedtest was: 5.6M download and 1.3M upload (far below advertised). Even worse was the lag time! There was a 75ms delay in the ping! This was a 12:47PM EDT

I drove to NW Atlanta (by Ikea-16th St) and couldn’t get 4G anywhere. Companion has HTC Evo 4G LTE and his readings were almost identical to mine.

It’s 6pm EDT and I’m back by Six Flags and no 4G and no 3G either! Same on the Evo LTE.

This morning I drove through Plano, Richardson, Carrollton, Irving and Downtown Dallas and there was no 4g lte. Top speed was 1mb download and 600kb upload.

Still no 4G LTE outside outside (6 miles) Atlanta. Was downtown this morning and got 4.5M download and .9M upload. Went to east side (Decatur area) and 3.2 download and 1.1M upload. So Atlanta was a trick? I also had my Epic 4G (WiMax) and was getting much better speeds on it in both 3G and 4G WiMax. LTE service is spotty at best and 3G is VERY VERY slow on LTE devices (Galaxy SIII & Evo LTE).

Me too (no LTE) — drove from home (75254) to work (75074) and no 4g at any point between the two locations. https://twitter.com/dfwdraco76/status/224859291662815232

No 4G LTE in Austin, TX. as of 9/7/12. Sprint just told me it will be another two months, or so.

As of 9/23/2012. In austin tx i got 19mb down and 6mb up on my galaxy s3. I live off 183 and lake creek parkway. Its about time sprint.

Does your phone on the top show “3G” or does it show “4G”? Because I work in that same area, and I have never seen speeds that fast with my s3. When I got mine about a month ago, the guy said that the 4G was scheduled by the end of the year, but he heard it would be much sooner, like by the end of September.

What’s happening with 4G LTE in our area now? (November 23, 2012) I live off Parmer and 1431. I’m ready to buy a tablet and Bluetooth headset so I can ditch my cell phone. (Will never buy a smartphone until someone can answer this question: What problem does it solve?) I need unbiased advice from someone who does not work for AT&T/Sprint/T-Mobile/Verizon.

4G LTE is working in Austin for Sprint. There are different areas that it works in and Palmer and 1431 is probably too far out, but I don’t know for sure. I have the Galaxy S III and it automatically switches to 4G when it is available and back to 3G when it isn’t.

Thanks, Neil. I currently use Sprint. After posting my question, I went to the Sprint coverage map, which was updated November 19 (four days ago). My area at 1431 and Parmer is a tiny purple island of “3G and More” encircled by “4G WiMAX on Street,” within a smallish area of “4G WiMAX in Buildings.” Just my apartment complex is “3G and More” (according to the Sprint map). I wonder if this has anything to do with calls dropping when I’m in a certain spot in my bedroom – I’m getting the “and More” technology.

Just got an S3 and the Sprint store told me he “thinks” they are in late beta stage right now and expects to have LTE in Austin by mid-October-ish.
