Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update Release Date Remains Unclear

Published

on

A few weeks ago, the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update leaked out several times. However, since then, there has been relative silence leaving Droid Bionic owners wondering whether or not the software will roll out in July, or if it will instead roll out later on in Q3.

At the end of June and in the beginning of July, the Droid Bionic update leaked out like crazy. It leaked several times, and with each leaked update, the release date appeared to get closer as each subsequent update had less coming along with it in terms of fixes and enhancements.

It lead us to believe that the Droid Bionic update might be coming sooner rather than later, something that would have certainly been welcomed by Droid Bionic owners who have felt slighted by Motorola and Verizon ever since the two companies released the Droid RAZR just weeks after the Droid Bionic arrived.

The Droid Bionic ICS update remains unclear.

Since those leaks though, we haven’t heard from the Droid Bionic’s Ice Cream Sandwich update which could mean that the update is close

Motorola’s servers haven’t leaked anything lately and that could mean that a final release is close to being finalized or better yet, could already be in Verizon’s hands. We’re going to side with the former for now since nothing has leaked indicating the latter.

The silence and the lack of any official information could also mean that we might not see it roll out in July but rather, at some other point within the promised Q3 release window which includes both the months of August and September.

It helps that the software that leaked was running smoothly for those brave enough to install it and hopefully that means that we are getting closer to an eventual roll out.

It’s also our hope that these early indicators mean that Motorola and Verizon don’t wait until the last day before rolling out the software, much like they did for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. After all, they have had ample time to prepare the Droid Bionic’s ICS update.

Let’s hope for some good news soon.

Motorola’s official time frame is EARLY Q3, it’s right on their site. Not just Q3, but specifically early Q3.

Many sites say ICS is coming sometime in Q3 but Moto specifically said early Q3. In my small brain that means July. August would be mid Q3 and Sept would be late Q3. I sure hope they are not jerking us around again!!

I updated to .232 about a week ago and I am not looking back. Battery life has improved 110%. About two days after I upgraded to ICS my phone for no reason rebooted on it’s own. The funny thing is upon reboot a screen popped up saying “updating” after that the phone has had no reboot issues, so I have no idea what that was about. Anyway if any new leaks come out I think I will just stay where I am until the official release and even then I just might stay where I am. After all if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

Google is cutting about 4,000 jobs at its Motorola Mobility cellphone business and will close or consolidate about one-third of its 90 locations. The reductions represent about 20 percent of Motorola Mobility’s 20,000 employees, and 7 percent of Google’s overall work force. Two-third of the job cuts will take place outside of the U.S., Google said.
