AT&T iPad Hotspot Support Remains MIA Four Months After Launch

Published

on

Even with AT&T’s new shared data plans now becoming crystal clear, the carrier’s plans for hotspot support with the new iPad remain very much unclear.

Back in March, when the new iPad first launched, the carrier issued a statement saying that it was working with Apple to make the mobile hotspot feature available to new iPad owners in the future.

We are now in the future, and sadly, AT&T is still singing the same tune.

AT&T’s New iPad hotspot plans remain unclear.

Now that the carrier has made its new shared data plan launch known to the public, we asked AT&T how that plan might affect the launch of mobile hotspot support for the new iPad. Here is what the carrier told us:

“We are working with Apple to enable this feature in the future, but we currently do not offer it.”

So, unfortunately for owners of the new iPad, AT&T’s stance on the feature has not changed in the four months that the new iPad has been on shelves and it’s uncertain how these new shared data plans might affect those plans.

Verizon, the other carrier that supports the 4G LTE enabled new iPad has been offering hotspot support from the very beginning. The mobile hotspot feature, which allows owners to tether other devices to the iPad, is included in Verizon’s data plan packages.

So even while it’s possible that AT&T might end up reversing course when its shared data plan launches in the later part of August, the situation still remains unresolved and owners of the AT&T 4G LTE iPad are still clueless as to when, if ever, mobile hotspot support will arrive.

Cant say I’m surprised. Glad I swapped my AT&T iPad for a Verizon iPad.

Any update here? We’re at the end of August, and would be great if AT&T got on board here.

Finally available with iOS 6. I’m on mobile share. I’d guess that is required.
