Google Now delivers instant access to information, Google search requests and handy information cards on the Nexus 7.

The Google Now app can be launched from the lock screen or from the search bar, but it’s even easier to open Google Now from inside any app on the Nexus 7 with a simple gesture.

By swiping up from below the home button, or tapping and holding on the home button, users can open Google Now from practically any app or screen on the Nexus.

This is almost as fast and easy as holding the home button down on the iPhone to access Siri, maybe faster for users who can find the soft home button without looking.

Here’s how to open Google Now with a swipe from any app or screen on the Nexus 7.

This also works on the Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

After opening Google Now, its possible to ask Google Now for answers to many questions.

Google Now can,

  • Find a type of restaurant
  • Check the weather
  • Set alarms and reminders
  • Look up stats about sports players
  • Convert currencies and units of measure
  • and much more.

Google Now will check the traffic to your next appointment so you don’t end up late due to traffic, but there doesn’t appear to be a way to create an appointment with Google Now.

Also missing is the ability to open an app with Google Now. Hopefully Google Now will be able to do more, including controlling system settings soon.

    Can anyone tell me if NEXUS ebook readers support the .mobi, .LIT and .AZW (kindle format) files? Pretty simple question.

      Yes. Those formats are supported. Use kindle app or aldiko app.
