LG Spectrum Ice Cream Sandwich Update Release Date Appears Close

Rejoice LG Spectrum owners, as it appears that the device might just snag the Ice Cream Sandwich update before the likes of the HTC ThunderBolt and Motorola Droid Bionic.

Droid-Life has discovered a post on LG’s support forum where an LG rep claims that the software is close to rolling out. Apparently, LG is just waiting on Verizon to post an FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air) date.

The rep claims that the update is close to rolling out but Verizon doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to being swift about major Android updates.

LG originally promised ICS for the the device in the first half of 2012.

Still, this news is better than no news at all and it could mean that the LG Spectrum, one of Verizon’s 4G LTE Android devices still on Gingerbread, could have a helping of Ice Cream Sandwich soon.

No word yet on what other enhancements or bug fixes will arrive with the new features that Ice Cream Sandwich brings to the table but we assume that LG and Verizon will include a few to shore up the overall experience of the device.

The LG Spectrum was first announced back at CES 2012 and was released shortly thereafter. Since January, the device has been stuck on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Ice Cream Sandwich only stands to improve a device that already has some impressive specifications

The Spectrum has a large 4.5-inch display which will feature True HD IPS and boast a resolution of 1280×720. That display will also feature Gorilla Glass. It’ll also have a 1.5GHz dual-core processor 8MP rear camera, 1.3 front-facing camera, and 16GB of storage space.

If the Spectrum does get ICS soon, it might beat the Droid Bionic and HTC Rezound, both of which have been waiting to get their updates for quite some time.
