HTC Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich Update Officially Cancelled

Bad news for HTC Desire HD owners as HTC has officially cancelled the Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich update after flip flopping on whether it would ever roll out for device owners.

The company has informed Android Central that the update is indeed cancelled and that it will not be rolling out to the HTC Desire HD in the future.

HTC had originally confirmed the HTC Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich update for this year.

In cancelling the update, HTC says that the device is better off staying on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it was able to conclude that notion after extensive testing of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the device.

Here is the company’s full statement:

“After extensive testing, HTC has determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD.  When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.”

HTC had originally promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the Desire HD, but that promise became in doubt earlier this month after a carrier announced that HTC had cancelled the update.

It then stated that the update would, in fact, still be rolling out for the Desire HD and Desire S at some point in the future. Turns out though that HTC wasn’t able to get the software running up to par and Desire HD owners will just have either stick around on Android Gingerbread or root the device and attempt to install a ROM.
