iPhone 5 to Launch with Adapter for Smaller Dock Connector?

On the heels of renewed claims about a smaller 19-pin dock connector on the iPhone 5 comes word that Apple will likely provide an adapter that will allow the device to work with accessories that employ the older 30-pin format.

According to iMore, Apple will indeed be releasing an adapter that will allow users of the iPhone 5 to use their phone with accessories that support the old 30-pin dock connector.

As of now, it’s unclear whether Apple will include such an adapter in the box with the iPhone 5 or if it will sell the 19-pin adapter as a separate accessory.

The iPhone 5 has been rumored to be coming with a new 19-pin dock connector which would make accessories that use the 30-pin format unusable. By providing an adapter, Apple would not only be able to offer the new format on the iPhone 5 but it would also be able to keep those who own 30-pin dock connector supported accessories happy.

Apple will apparently release an adapter for the iPhone 5′s new dock connector.

This news comes shortly after a report from Reuters that says that the new 19-pin dock connector will likely be coming on the iPhone 5, a claim that supports many reports in the past.

The new dock connector likely will allow Apple more space to work with on the iPhone 5. That space could mean that the iPhone 5 will come with a bigger speaker and microphone. It could also mean more space for a 4G LTE radio and larger battery.

Apple’s iPhone 5 is also rumored to be coming with a quad-core processor – possibly the A6 – NFC support, and a new front-facing camera that might be HD in quality.

As far as a release date is concerned, October remains the front-runner for an iPhone 5 launch and release though dates in both August and September have popped up. Verizon has hinted at a Q4 release date in the past.

Production of the iPhone 5 has said to begun at Pegatron ahead of the device’s upcoming launch.
