iPhone 4 Price Slashed at Best Buy

Published

on

Ahead of the iPhone 5 release date, Best Buy has seen it fit to drop the cost of the iPhone 4 down to a much more affordable on-contract price.

Today, Best Buy slashed the price of the iPhone 4 down to $49.99 on-contract. That is a fantastic deal for those that don’t want to shell out the $199.99 or above for an iPhone 4S and don’t want to wait or or care about the upcoming iPhone 5 which is rumored to be coming out in either September or October of this year.

Apple currently has the iPhone 4 for sale for $99 and has had it at that price since it announced and released the iPhone 4S back in October of 2011.

Keep in mind, the iPhone 4 is only available in one flavor. The only iPhone 4 model still in existence is the 8GB variant. Those who need more space will be smart to look at the iPhone 4S or wait for the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 4 price has dropped at Best Buy.

However, the iPhone 4 will be getting the upcoming iOS 6 update and many of the new features coming along with it.

The iPhone 4S will be the benefactor of Apple’s new Maps application, integrated Facebook, shared Photo Streams, Passbook for loading up airline boarding passes and coupons, and of course the new user interface changes that will be coming with Apple’s latest iOS update.

Unfortunately, there are a few features that it may not get. Turn-by-turn directiosn, flyover capabilities in Maps, FaceTime over Cellular, and of course all of the new features that won’t be coming with Siri.

As we’ve seen with the iPhone 3GS, Apple may end up adding one or more of these as time goes on.

iOS 6 Release Date

Apple has said that the iOS 6 update will be out sometime this fall. Generally, the iOS 6 release comes shortly before the release of the iPhone 5.

With the iPhone 5 rumored for September or October, we can assume that the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will all get the upgrades to iOS 6 sometime in either of those two months.

This is good. Slashing down the price will increase the demand of iPhone 4 so the markets can be cleared out of the old stock. Still I bet the iPhone 5 will create a market of its own, after some time gradually. As the features are changed and you cannot use any accessory of iPhone 4 or 3 with it, it would take time for the users of previous versions of the iPhone to switch to iPhone 5.

The genius of the Apple marketing juggernaut keeps rolling on, fueling itself on the shallow and ignorant ” Got to have it now” consumerism. More power to them.
