Lenovo Performs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Magic

Often times, as aging devices are replaced by newer ones, they are kicked to the curb when it comes to getting major Android updates. Lenovo though has carved its own path, at least with the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 and its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

As discovered by Engadget, Lenovo has rather quietly released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to owners of the Lenovo IdeaPad K1, which had, up until a few days ago, been running Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

However, those who want to upgrade their tablet with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich can now do so through Lenovo’s website. Better yet, the update is a pure vanilla version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, void of any of Lenovo’s UI additions.

The release will wipe everything on the device so those with precious data will want to make sure all of that data is backed up before taking the plunge. The installation process is also not recommend for those that are novice Android users.

Those who are capable of customizing Android will likely find the installation process straightforward. Those who aren’t might have some trouble. Those who do stumble into issues will not be greeted with a helping hand either as the software is not going to be offering any type of warranty service.

Lenovo says that this will be the only update that rolls out for Ice Cream Sandwich. That means that those who download and install it will be stuck on Android 4.0.3.
