LG Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich Update Cancelled?

Published

on

The LG Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich update may have been cancelled which would mean that owners would, at least officially, forever be stuck on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

According to a tweet from LG Canada, the LG Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich update will not be rolling out. The Canadian arm of the company says that the original announcement, which came many months ago, was a general statement from the company and that it apparently does not encompass the LG Optimus 2X for whatever reason.

So, as of right now, it would appear that Canadian owners of the Optimus 2X, at the very least, will not be seeing the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and that could also spell trouble for the American version of the device, the T-Mobile LG G2X, which has yet to see the update either.

The LG Optimus 2X ICS update may have been cancelled.

T-Mobile has not confirmed anything as of yet and we have not seen any signs of the update so it’s possible that it, despite it’s hardware, may never see anything other than Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

If true, that would mean that owners would need to root their device and install a ROM in order to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich up and running on their smartphone.

This is obviously not the news LG Optimus 2X owners were looking for, especially when the device has some pretty meaty specifications including a dual-core processor.

It’s possible that LG Canada might be ill-informed or that LG might change its mind down the road but at the moment, LG Optimus 2X owners should temper their expectations and expect to never receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Feeling the sting Optimus 2X owners?

LG is an incredibly stupid company. They first said there will be an Ice Cream Sandwich by 2nd quarter this year and now they withdraw completely. Bye then, this will be my last LG phone, if this is true.

I will bet the USA gets ICS for their Optimus2x. Canada is ALWAYS getting screwed. Everything, Netflix, PSN, X box Live, Amazon etc……. I am sick of it. Only way to fix it is to move. Not sounding so bad right about now.

Let me get this straight: you want to move because of a phone and a game console? ….

We’ve felt the sting since the phone was introduced. LG and TMO have never cared about the people who coughed up a couple hundred bucks for this POS.

They could’ve at least release drivers so that ROM cookers could release a decent ROM. I don’t know which one to be blame whether the LG or NVIDIA.

This is nonsense. LG you lost my business for all your products. 3 years back Lenovo send me wrong product. When I called them, they told me to return the wrong product, once they receive the product, they will refund the money. I need to make another purchase… I told them just send the product I ordered, I will return wrong product. They said NO. Well I got my refund after 2 weeks, and that was and will be the last business that I will ever have with Lenevo.

Long story short. YOU LOST MY BUSINESS.

I’m extremely disappointed. This was their flagship less than a year before ICS was released. But that’s old technology enough to forget about that phone, their money is made with that, why bother?

How about keeping customers? We’ve been lured into new technology prowess (first dual core phone to hit the market) to then be left aside like if we had chosen the cheapest piece of hardware.

I will make sure to follow articles on new LG phones and comment on how unreliable LG is with updates, to help new customers not to be fooled like I was. Being lazy should not be deemed profitable.

And no more LG product for me ever, phone or not.

Very disappointing. Any way, this will be my last LG product. Need less to say, I will not recommend any of LG products be it mobile phone or other wise to my family and friends.

Bell continued to advertise that our phones would be upgradable. I think this is a case of false advertising and refunds are in order.
