Sprint HTC EVO Design 4G Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolling Out Today

Published

on

The Sprint HTC EVO Design 4G Ice Cream Sandwich update will roll out today ahead of its promised early August release date.

Sprint has confirmed the good news on its website and the update, which follows the HTC EVO 3D Ice Cream Sandwich update, should be hitting devices at some point today.

The EVO Design 4G ICS update will be out today.

We haven’t yet heard from EVO Design 4G owners in regards to the roll out but Sprint’s log notes that July 31st is the roll out day for the update which means that if it hasn’t arrived yet, it should be on its way soon.

Sprint’s Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC EVO Design 4G follows the Android 4.0 update for the HTC EVO 3D which began rolling out to owners earlier today. Sprint had originally promised both updates for the early part of August but the carrier was, in fact, able to get the software out early.

EVO Design 4G owners will see quite a bit new with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update including:

– Home screen folders

– Launch Bar for commonly used apps

– Improved Android Browser

– Improved Camera Experience

– Face Unlock

– Resizable widgets

– Add/Remove Panels

All of those come with the ICS update itself though we imagine that the software also comes with other enhancements and bug fixes as well. Most major Android updates generally do.

The update is going to be rolling out to EVO Design 4G owners OTA, Over-the-Air, which means that once the update is available to download and install, the phone will display a prompt.

Anyone seeing the update yet?

Mine is also going really slow. I like the new features, but at what expense? :( my texts are taking forever if they even go through (using handcent), and my internal memory shows I have a total of 1.15gb instead of 8gb?

    HTC evo 3d
Updated and the phone is really slow and does not show videos on most websites excluding youtube. You can only down load to the SD card which sucks for streaming.

Slow as well, just posting this as a bench mark, if anyone finds something to help this slowness before another update may roll out, I’d love to be directed to some resources

My freaking phone has been decrypting (whatever the heck that means) for the past 6 hours and it won’t do anything. It doesn’t even let me turn the phone off. I don’t want to remove the battery because a warning sign that appeared on the screen before I started the download. Anyone knows what to do???

Same problem! The prompt said it would be “about an hour” I started 2.5 hours ago, the phone is very hot and not usable. How much longer will this go?! Before I started the process, I noticed that all of my pics and videos were gone (or hopefully just inaccessible).

      So frustrating……………………..

I don’t like the fact that my phone is ridiculously slow and every time I hit back or home it says “htc” then loads forever.

Just updated, I hate the look and layout of the home screen now. It was so much simpler with the old software. My phone seems to take forever when I press Home or click on an app. I wish you could do a rollback on phones.

Day 2 of the update: my phone dies 50% faster now, even when Im running no apps and Wifi and other unnecessary things are turned off. The ringtones are SO loud, and catch you way off guard. The whole “slowly fade into the home screen” thing is super annoying and seems like it takes more energy for the phone to do it. Was this update even finished before they put it out? Doesn’t seem like it…

    08/08/2012 at 12:56 pm

This update was about as stupid as an ice cream sandwich. As soon as the update was over I rushed my phone to the store because everything was going about 50% slower and the layout isn’t pleasing at all. I had no problem with my phone before this update, now I’m wishing I had gotten an iPhone.

Hate this update. It messed up my whole phone. It is running very slow and I have no access to text messaging. It just says “loading”…All apps are very slow and some don’t even open. I called Sprint and they have no idea how to fix this. Does anyone know? I don’t want to do a factory reset and lose any of my information. Please help!

I like new options but I don’t like how slow it is

    08/09/2012 at 11:46 pm

I updated yesterday and originally I couldn’t access any of my texts but I set it to not go to sleep then left messages open and the app would launch normally after that but I couldn’t open some threads…had to download Handcent which makes my phone slow. Or maybe that’s just the update.

They took off the power saver setting as well or at least I can’t seem to find it.

Also there seems to be no way to have different volumes for notifications and ringer. I don’t want any sound for Gmail, Instagram, etc but I obviously want my phone to ring!

    Any advice?

    • Naeem

      08/10/2012 at 1:30 am

You better do a factory reset for phone to avert slowness and make sure that you select “Erase SD Card” check box. Before that you should back up your contact, SMS, call log, and apps with Go Back up, you can find it from google play. After reset restore your data. Different volume you can find in Settings/sound/volumes. Enjoy.

    08/10/2012 at 6:03 am

Just don’t do it. With the regular lock screen, you can still pull down notifications (which shouldn’t work). So, make sure you use something more secure for the lock screen. Also, the Facebook contacts won’t sync anymore. It’s interesting that the Facebook app works great. So why can’t the phone sync the contacts. This , to me, is a severe and unacceptable loss of functionality! No loss in speed has been noticed. I just can’t believe that ICS is being released when it’s not even ready. I’m loosing faith in HTC. I even tried to a master reset again with no luck. It seems like no one cares to fix it. Next time I will get a Samsung phone. Better yet, I will get an iPhone! Some people do expect their phone to stay the same even if the os is upgraded. I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to phones.

Is there not a power saver that came with the phone anymore? I had to download one. I wish there was still a power saver when you went to settings and clicked power and you were able to turn it on. This update sucks. Come up with a new one with the power saver again and make it like the old layout. This layout sucks. Plus, my phone is really slow and right when I unplug my charger, it says its on 97% and then 5 minutes later, its on 89%? What’s up with that? Haven’t even used it. I hate droids.

I did the update as well not knowing how bad it was going to mess up my phone, main issue was that it was running very slow, wouldnt get 3g or 4g in places I know have the service, had issue with sending text MSG’s, it kept failing and I had to send it multiple times, and it was lagging very bad when just trying to navigate through the phone….I do know a good deal about phones due to where I work…so the first thing that came to mind when this happend was to RTN my device ( complete factory reset using my MSL) ….it did take care of just about every issue dealing with the service as in, 3g,4g,txt,…. but its still slow navigating around and I have half the batt life I had before…. I just dont think the device is able to handle the new OS….ICS runs great on a dual core phone cause thats what it was made for….I have a friend with a 3D and he got update same day around the same time, he said it runs great … and the 3D has the Dual-core 1.2 GHz CPU …. I dont think there is going to be any fix for the issue unless they (HTC) re-push Gingerbread to the device…. wich the service provider has no control over…they dont make the phones or the software, they just provide the service to the device, if it was really important to me I would be contacting HTC to see what they are going to do about it…but its not that big of a deal to me… I’m just going to deal with it until I upgrade or if it gets really bad I will just look for a root and put Gingerbread back on my device….thats just my thoughts on it.

One last note *** SYNC YOUR CONTACTS TO GOOGLE OR SAVE THEM TO SD BEFORE YOU DO ANY RESETS….And make sure you remember your gmail account info as in username and password, and it wouldnt be a bad idea to login to your google contacts.. ( just type google contacts into search box) … to make sure they are all there before the reset…

    GOOD LUCK..

Just do a factory reset. It’s a lot smoother.
Pull your battery out put it back in hold the volume down button and press power. Press down on the volume button and go to factory reset and press the power button. That’s all I did and its working a lot better. I took my sd card out just in case it would try to format it.
This will erase all your apps so you’re going to have to download them all over again. Quickest way to do it is through WiFi. Don’t forget to sync your contacts to your gmail.

I’ve had non-stop continuous problem with my HTC Design 4G Sprint after updating to the Ice Cream Sandwich Update. My screen resets itself after every time i hit the home button. My 3g internet does not work at all. Only way i can use internet is if I’m in 4g area or using wifi which i don use either of them. Its also very slow and buggy. Any way this can be solved? E-mail me at [email protected]

My user experience with my HTC EVO Design 4G since the ICS update, has gone from 100% positive to 100% negative. Not only does my phone lag considerably, but it appears to have a mind of its own. HTC sucks for doing this in such a sneaky fashion, for not first providing full disclosure PRIOR to system update and for not providing a simple reversal to unsatisfied consumers.

Please fix! My phone is so slow now. I was excited for ICS but now, I just want my fast phone back.

Horrible update! I’m a first time droid phone user, and this has totally put me off. The phone was blazingly fas; then on a recommendation from a friend who thought my phone was slow and suggested an update, I did so. Man was I ever sorry. The phone is slower than crap! Not even half the speed as from the factory, and worse, the battery doesn’t even last a day! It dropped all the options to turn off/manage apps, manage power, no power saver menu anymore, and worse it constantly resets my homepage screen and the icons/apps continually change. For example, my homepage has the keypad for phone, im’s, text, email, and location. I’ll put it in my pocket during work, and 2 hours later, the icons are for wikepedia, phone, location, fb. Wtf? and even more frustrating is that it will at random group your hotkeys into folders. So at times I’ll turn on the phone and the entire home screen is blank, with just a single unlabeled folder!

Plus again like other people mentioned, my batter used to last at least 18 hours running apps, texting and a few calls, doesn’t even make it through the entire work day! Does anyone know how to uninstall this update or revert the phone to before the update condition?!
