Motorola Droid RAZR HD Features: What to Expect

Published

on

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD from Verizon remains one of the more elusive unannounced Android smartphones. Yes, the device has leaked out several times but we still don’t have a clear cut view on its features or its release date. That being said, we can make some predictions as to what consumers should expect from the Droid RAZR HD, feature-wise, and that’s exactly what we want to share with you today.

It’s clear that Verizon is not yet ready to launch the Droid RAZR HD as it remains in the hands of testers who occasionally offer the public a glimpse of the carrier’s next Droid-branded smartphone.

Sure, we’ve seen the device leak out on camera several times and we have seen some benchmarks, but there are still bits and pieces of the Droid RAZR HD that remain missing.

The Droid RAZR HD is headed to Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any new information that’s going to clear up any of those mysteries, but we can make some educated predictions based on past Motorola devices and based on what we think we know about the Droid RAZR HD thus far.

Here is what consumers should expect from the Motorola Droid RAZR HD’s features.

4G LTE

We had little doubt that the Motorola Droid RAZR HD would come without 4G LTE data speeds and fortunately, those data speeds were confirmed by yesterday’s Droid RAZR HD photo-op.

The Droid RAZR HD will run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, the biggest in the U.S. which not only means that owners will be able to get speeds that can reach up to 10 times faster than normal 3G, but they’ll also have widespread access to 4G LTE.

Carriers like AT&T and Sprint have barely scratched the 4G LTE surface and can’t offer the same type of coverage that Verizon has.

While Verizon has over 300 4G LTE markets in place in the U.S., AT&T has around 50 and Sprint has 15.

Those who are in need of ample 4G LTE coverage will need not worry with the Droid RAZR.

Solid Design

Say what you will about Motorola but the company puts a lot of effort into the designs of their phones. They don’t feel cheap, they are well-protected and they are durable.

The Droid RAZR HD will feature a Kevlar back.

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD will be no different. From the photos, it appears that it has a slim form factor, complete with a protective Kevlar backing just like the backings found on the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX.

So, expect a thin and if the Motorola Atrix HD is any indication, a lightweight design with lots of protection from the Droid RAZR HD.

Mediocre Cameras

The Droid RAZR HD was rumored to have a 12MP or 13MP camera but now it looks like it will have an 8MP camera. Go figure.

Motorola has never really seemed to put much effort into the cameras on their smartphones. They are decent but they are not spectacular.

We don’t know exactly what sensors Motorola has equipped the Droid RAZR HD with but we don’t expect its front-facing or rear camera to set any sort of gold standard.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The Droid RAZR HD that is in testers hands is currently running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which isn’t the latest piece of software from Google. We expect that to change with the final release of the Droid RAZR HD.

It would be foolish for Motorola to release a device, with as much hype and as much potential as the Droid RAZR HD, with last-generation software.

We still don’t have a release date for the Droid RAZR HD and it’s possible that that’s because Motorola is hard at work prepping it with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is a much improved piece of software over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

With no more major Android upgrades in sight, we can’t see the Droid RAZR HD missing out on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at launch.

Large Battery

It doesn’t look like the Droid RAZR HD will have the same 3,300 mAh battery found on the Droid RAZR MAXX but FCC documents do reveal that the device will have a fairly large stock battery.

Those documents reveal that the Droid RAZR HD battery will be 2,530 mAh in size, which, while not 3,300mAh, is still a lot bigger than many 4G LTE devices on the market.

ColorBoost HD Display

Judging by the Droid RAZR HD’s name, the device will employ a 720p HD display of unknown size. That has been confirmed by benchmarks.

The Droid RAZR HD will likely feature ColorBoost technology.

One thing that hasn’t been though and should be expected is ColorBoost technology being included with the Droid RAZR HD’s display.

Motorola introduced ColorBoost technology with the Atrix HD, and the technology offers sharper images and extremely vibrant colors.

World Phone

With the arrival of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, some of Verizon’s 4G LTE devices have become capable of traveling the world as global devices.

If true, it would mean that Droid RAZR HD owners would be able to use voice and data service in over 200 countries.

This feature is perfect for those that travel a lot for pleasure and business but don’t want to carry more than one device.

Seems as though adding the MSM8960 PRO version of the S4 would make this a must have device especially if it comes with Jelly Bean upon launch. All that and global ready at launch, I would be the first in line for this phone.

I really like what Moto’s been doing, I’m choosing this over the s3 for four reasons: UI, battery life, antenna and build quality.

If it ships with Ice Cream Sandwich, stay away – Moto will promise a quick update to Jelly Bean, and then fail to deliver. Just like they did with the Bionic and ICS (still hasn’t shipped), or the Razr and ICS (took a very long time, but finally shipped).

I brought an S3 and I’ve had the Motorola Droid X, Razr and Maxx. The biggest thing for me on my Motorola phone’s were (yes on all phones) including the ones brought in the store. is you can’t change the volume of the phone (if you are on the hand set) while the phone is to your ear. You have to pull it away and change the volume.

The motorola’s are built well and have great reception and good sound quality. I sure miss the feel of the phone.

Now the S3 believe it or not even though a lot of the times the db on the reception is down past db-100 or higher (higher the number the worst it is) yet I have not had any problems with the reception. I also perfsonally beleive the handoffs 4g to 3g and 3g to 4g is much better on the s3. the camera is great also. and it is much faster with the 2 gig memory and 1.5 gig snapdragan processor.

All samsung phones from what I’ve seen is if you get a picture text it views in a smaller size you have to save it in order to view it in a bigger size. I miss the view of a picture text on a motorola phone.

The sound quality of the motorola was great I liked that better however the samsung has the built in eq and makes it pretty decent.

Overall I’m happy with the Samsung because of the faster speed and I don’t have the volume problem anymore.

Basicly it works like this they both have there positives and negatives. if you want durablity and a better radio go with Moto. if you want a better camera a faster toy and a bigger screen and (for me a volume button you can adjust while on the phone go with samsung.
