Published

on

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD remains Verizon’s most elusive high-end smartphone as it continues to stay in the shadows despite many leaks and rumors. Despite all that, we still have a solid lead on what the Droid RAZR HD is and we want to take a deep dive into those rumors today.

Verizon’s upcoming device is likely going to replace the Droid RAZR as the carrier’s high-end RAZR-branded smartphone though the details about the device still remain murky.

Even in its unofficial form, the Droid RAZR HD is a highly sought after device and one that consumers have waited for for quite some time.

Here, we want to recap everything that we know about the Droid RAZR HD. From its possible screen resolution to what we’ve heard about its processor and cameras.

Droid RAZR HD Launch Date

Today, Motorola teased an unknown 4G LTE device on its Facebook page. And while it didn’t reveal exactly what the device is, it has said that it will make the final reveal this Friday after releasing a number of clues.

This apparently isn’t the Droid RAZR HD.

And while we initially believed that it might be the Droid RAZR HD, Motorola has said that that is not the case leaving the Droid RAZR HD launch date in limbo once again.

Droid RAZR HD Release Date

Thus far, we have heard nothing specific about the Droid RAZR HD release date which has led us to believe that it could be fairly far in the distance.

Again, Motorola has a penchant for not announcing specific release dates – other Android manufacturers are guilty of it too – and we don’t know if Friday will bring a Droid RAZR HD release date.

September and October seem like odd months to launch the Droid RAZR HD considering the possibility that an iPhone 5 could take place so it’s possible that we could see it arrive in August or November.

Droid RAZR HD Form Factor

Despite it not being official, we’ve seen the Droid RAZR HD leak out on camera several times, revealing its form factor to the world at large.

Sadly, those photos haven’t revealed much in terms of exact dimensions which means that we may not found out how bulky the device is until launch day.

We don’t expect it to be any thicker than the 8.9mm design found on the Droid RAZR MAXX and it’s possible that it could be the same 7.1mm as the Droid RAZR. Nothing has been confirmed yet though.

What has been confirmed is that it will sport a similar form factor to the two previous Droid smartphones complete with a Kevlar back plate for protection.

And seeing as though this is a Motorola smartphone, we expect a well-built smartphone from the top to the bottom.

Droid RAZR HD Screen

As is implied by its name, the Droid RAZR HD will likely be coming with an HD display. That fact seems to have been confirmed by a benchmark as well.

While its predecessors toil with 960×540 pixel resolution, the Droid RAZR HD will likely sport 720p resolution and come with the same ColorBoost technology found on the Atrix HD.

No word on the size of the display yet though we can’t imagine that it’s under 4.3-inches or over 4.8-inches.

Droid RAZR HD Specs

As for the rest of the rumored specifications, the Droid RAZR HD is rumored to have some pretty good specs on board, in addition to its high-end display.

While it was originally rumored to have a 12MP or 13MP camera, the rear camera is now rumored to be 8MP. It’ll likely shoot 1080p video and have all of the other bells and whistles of a camera found on a high-end phone. LED flash, autofocus, the list goes on.

The Droid RAZR HD also had its processor confirmed in a benchmark and it will likely sport a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor from Qualcomm. The S4 is an extremely speedy processor and it should be able to handle everything owners throw at the Droid RAZR HD.

Its front-facing camera has not been rumored but this is a Motorola phone so don’t expect anything special.

The Droid RAZR HD will likely have 1GB of RAM or more and it will definitely be coming with 4G LTE data capabilities which means it will be able to pull down data speeds that can reach up to 10 times faster than normal 3G.

It’s also rumored to have a 2,530 mAh battery, large for a smartphone, but smaller than the battery found in the Droid RAZR MAXX.

Droid RAZR HD Software

The Droid RAZR HD software remains up for debate. While benchmarks seemed to confirm Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Google has released Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it would be odd to see such a high-end phone launch without the latest mobile software.

One thing we do think we think we know is that the Droid RAZR HD will likely come with the new version of MotoBlur, Motorola’s UI, that has been tamed and comes with some useful features including a nifty clock widget.

Droid RAZR HD Price

Unfortunately, we still don’t have any bead on the price of the Droid RAZR HD though Verizon seems to have wizened up and has stopped trying to charge $300 for new 4G LTE smartphones.

The Droid RAZR HD price remains unknown.

We don’t expect the Droid RAZR HD to check in with a starting price over $199.99, not with the iPhone 5 on the way, but it could be that Verizon decides to revert back to its old ways.

Only time will tell.

This is yet ANOTHER article extolling the virtues and wonders of the Razr HD but NO RELEASE DATE. We don’t know when it’s coming out but when it does; boy is it gonna be good. Actually, this game is getting tiresome if not downright silly. By the time it’s actually released I’m going to be sick of waiting for it and I’ll feel like I’ve been manipulated by Verizon and Motorola if I do buy it. If it’s such “great product”, then what are Verizon and Motorola afraid of?!
