Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Release Date: What Not to Expect

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, originally announced in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will finally launch on August 15th at an event in the United States.

In the time between its first and second unveiling, Samsung has outfitted the Galaxy Note 10.1 with some new, impressive hardware.

It will include a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 10.1-inch WXGA (1280×768) display, a rear-facing 5MP camera, and a front-facing 1.9MP camera for video chatting. And like the Galaxy Note smartphone, the Galaxy Note 10.1 has the special S Pen stylus that allows owners to draw and take notes directly on the screen.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 also possesses a unique feature which will allow users to view two apps side-by-side. Samsung calls it Multiscreen.

And while the features are clear, what isn’t clear is when Samsung is going to release the new and improved Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. We’ve already made some predictions about what consumers should expect from the release date and now it’s time to take a look at a couple of things that consumers should not expect from the Galaxy Note 10.1 release date.

A 4G LTE Device

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 variants that will be a part of the initial release date will feature Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity only. The 4G LTE models, and Samsung has confirmed this, will come at a date later than the first Galaxy Note 10.1 release date.

This means that those hoping to get the tablet on the 4G LTE network on an American carrier to take advantage of those high-speed data speeds will likely have to wait several weeks for the 4G LTE model to arrive.

We expect that at least one American carrier will pick up the 4G LTE version of the device on its release date and a likely candidate is Verizon who has hosted Samsung 4G LTE tablets on its network in the past.

Uncertainty

Samsung has already announced both the device and its launch date so what’s the point of a launch event if not to announce the rest of the details.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 will finally launch on August 15th.

Don’t expect Samsung to be light on the release date details at the launch event on August 15th. Instead, we expect Samsung to clear up the release date and pricing questions that consumers have about the Galaxy Note 10.1

If Samsung fails to announce a specific release date for the Galaxy Note 10.1 at the event, we’ll be shocked.

Anything Other Than An August Release Date

That being said, don’t expect a release date to come on a date too far in the distance. Again, we’ve already seen this device show up at prematurely retailers ahead of its launch and it would be shocking to see a release date announced for weeks or months from now.

If anything, the Galaxy Note 10.1 release date should be on the day of the launch event or only just mere days out from August 15th.

Stock Shortages

Lastly, we don’t expect anyone hoping to buy the Galaxy Note 10.1 on its release date to experience any difficulty doing so. This is a device that was released long after it should have been released and while it’s an exciting device with its new upgrades – the quad-core processor in particular – it now has to face stiffer competition.

The Nexus 7 is already out and Apple is rumored to be announcing an iPad Mini at some point in September, both of which could pull away consumers from the Galaxy Note 10.1.

    1280×800 PLS screen, not 1280×768.
    Quad core, not dual core.

And that’s just in the third paragraph…

Buying two of them on day one. My wife also wants one for school. I really hope there isn’t any kind of shortage. I’m thinking there won’t be because people who are looking at this tablet have to also be considering all of the W8 tablets arriving in the Fall with full stylus support.

If the screen is the same as on the Tab 10.1 then that is tragic. Talk about fumbling on the 1 yard line. Have you seen the Tab 10.1 screen? It is AWFUL.
