The wait for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update and its release date continues as we move deeper into August with other non-Nexus devices receiving possible release dates.
Earlier today, we heard that the Samsung Galaxy S III, a device not included in the original batch of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean devices, would be getting its update on August 29th. While that’s obviously not official, we also previously heard that the device would be getting the update starting in Q3 which seems to point to that date as being a distinct possibility.
If true, this would leave Verizon about two weeks to roll out the Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to avoid further embarrassment. Remember, it took Verizon nearly five months to roll out one update to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, something that infuriated owners and gave the Nexus experience here in the U.S. a black eye.
Sadly, we haven’t heard about any sort of release date for the software. Google and Verizon continue to remain silent even after the binaries for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 update went into the AOSP (Android Open Source Project). That addition seemed to allude to something coming in the near future.
Thus far though, Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners and Galaxy Nexus owners on other carriers like Sprint, have been left out in the cold, wondering why the Nexus S, a device that is a year older than the Galaxy Nexus, received its update before their device that not only is more recent, but launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.
So now, here we are, more than a month after the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update first started to roll out, for reference it was July 13th, and there is still no sign of Jelly Bean Android 4.1 for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Sprint Galaxy Nexus or the Sprint Nexus S 4G which has been left out in the cold.
This has forced some Galaxy Nexus owners to go the unofficial route and root their device and install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on their own.
With that August 29th Galaxy S III Android 4.1 release date fast approaching, we hope that we see some Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 movement soon.
Anyone out there frustrated with the process?
