New Nexus Rumors: Large Display, Dual-Core, SD Card Slot

Published

on

The rumor mill for the next Nexus smartphone has started up ahead of its launch and today, we get the first glimpse at possible specifications on Google’s next Nexus.

According to SamMobile, the Nexus 4 could be the Samsung I-9260, and it could be a fairly small upgrade from the last Nexus smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The leaked specifications hint at it being a bit better than both the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S III in terms of hardware instead of being an absolute hardware powerhouse.

This is the first time we’ve seen any rumored specifications for the next Nexus device but it’s not the first time that we’ve heard that Samsung will be making the device.

The GT-I9260 could be the next Nexus smartphone.

Rumored specifications for the Nexus 4 include a Super AMOLED HD display that measures in at 4.65-inches, a dual-core A9 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, an 8MP rear camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, 16GB of storage and a slot for an SD card which would provide for expanded storage.

We also assume that Jelly Bean Android 4.1 is going to be the on board operating system and that it will have 4G LTE data capabilities.

All of those are upgrades over the Galaxy Nexus but they are not the booming upgrades that many have expected from the next Nexus device.

The Galaxy Nexus was a solid device from a hardware standpoint so it’s possible that Google and Samsung don’t want to change too much about the phone, despite clamoring from critics and consumers for a powerhouse.

Of course, none of this is set in stone and it’s possible that these specs could change. It’s also possible that Samsung is not the manufacturer, though, it has made the last two Nexus smartphones and both of them have done fairly well.

We previously had heard a rumor that multiple Nexus smartphones would be coming in November, specifically on November 5th, so it’s possible that the Samsung I-9260 is just one of an assortment of Nexus devices coming to shelves later this year.

Would you buy the next Nexus if it had these specs?

In my opinion, both the Nexus A, and Nexus 3 (Galaxy Nexus) are getting undeserved credit, for being better than they actually are.

Funny. In all honesty, I’m typing this up this morning laying in bed with my Nexus One, as I set the news and weather app to sniff out ‘Nexus 4’ articles as they’re released. I’m glad this phone was superior to the iPhone 3Gs in every single way at the time of its release.

I haven’t upgraded to either of the new Nexus phones with good reason. THE ONLY WAY I’ll ever upgrade my phone, is if the phone I’m upgrading to is better than my current phone in every single way, and neither the Nexus S, nor GNex pulled that off that.

The battery life on my Nexus One, and camera quality, were on par with the Nexus S, and the processing power were about the same. But get this, the storage capacity is only 16GB on the Nexus S, when my Nexus One has 32GB with my SD card!

16GB is not enough! My audio files alone take up little over 14GB. Combine that with all the pictures and videos I have on this phone, and currently, exactly 18.03GB is being used on this SD card!

Galaxy Nexus? It still uses a 5MP camera, when 8MP has become the industry standard. I wasn’t able to get my hands on the 32GB GSM model before it was discontinued, as I really was going to get it.

The thing has NO SD card expansion slot, and again, 16GB is not enough!

Megapixels in a camera don’t mean everything I know, so I was willing to overlook that to buy the 32GB GSM model, but I couldn’t get my hands on it.
Hopefully this next Nexus phone will get it right.

I want a Nexus phone with at least a minimum of 32GB of memory, achieved either through internal or external storage, a 8MP camera or higher, a 1.2GHz dual core processor or better, 1GB of RAM or higher, on a 3.8 to 4.5 inch screen. Is that so hard to deliver? The screen size is negotiable, but if manufacturers do this, only then will there finally be a Nexus phone that’s truly better than the Nexus One from over 2 YEARS AGO! Undisputed.

    Why is this so hard?

Agreed….still using my N1 as well. Skipped the Nexus S, got the GNex cuz i wanted ICS but sent it back after about a month due to some constant rebooting issue. Was gonna get another one but decided to wait for the next Nexus..that is why i went back to my N1 despite the low memory problem. For now i enjoy Jelly Bean with my N7 till the next Nexus device or devices is/are revealed. I hope HTC is one of the OEMs for the next Nexus…if not then in this order Samsung, LG, Sony will be my choice of the next Nexus. But if for some reason HTC is not chosen as the OEM or one of the five rumored OEMs and has the balls to release a pure pure Jelly Bean device… i will go for it. They should just make sure it has an SD card slot, bigger removable battery, 2GB RAM, ample internal storage 32/64GB, 8+Mpx rear cam 2Mpx front cam and hopefully keep the height under 130mm. Most ppl want the pure vanilla Android experience mostly now that Jelly Bean is so advanced and there is no need for skins…so why don’t HTC just skip Sense UI for just one marquee device and see how it plays out. JUST DO IT NOW.

I’m still using my N1 and I love it. None of the other phones stack up. Only thing I want in my N1 is more internal storage…
