HTC ThunderBolt ICS Update Release Date Still Missing Despite Leak

HTC and Verizon are likely going to come down to the wire with the missing HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update, even though the update just leaked out to users for the very first time.

Yesterday, HTC ThunderBolt owners got some Ice Cream Sandwich reassurance. A ROM, based on an official version of the update, leaked out for users to enjoy ahead of the device’s official ICS roll out.

That ROM was the first sign, at least in an official sense, of the update itself. However, that doesn’t change the fact that a specific release date for the software is still missing mere days before the software is expected to finally roll out to the aging 4G LTE smartphone.

HTC and Verizon are coming down to the wire with the ThunderBolt ICS update.

HTC promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the device way back in the beginning of 2012. It then followed that up by promised the update during the months of July or August, without revealing a specific date. That wouldn’t have been a problem if we weren’t a little over a week away from the deadline and owners were still without answers.

This process is starting to turn out like the HTC Rezound ICS update. The Rezound’s ICS update was supposed to roll out in either June or July and HTC and Verizon waited and waited and waited without saying anything.

Then, July came and went without so much as a peep from either HTC or Verizon. Then, a few days later, in August, Verizon finally announced the update.

I understand that it was only a few days delay but customers deserved better than silence, missed deadlines and glorified soak tests. The Rezound update that rolled out initially was a soak test, a test aimed at making sure the software was good to roll out to the masses.

And my guess is that something similar is going to happen to ThunderBolt owners who have already had to deal with more nonsense than pretty much any other phone in existence.

I understand that issues could delay the update. With a device as old as the HTC ThunderBolt and software as buggy as Ice Cream Sandwich has been, trouble is on the wall.

But one would think that this close to the end of August, with ThunderBolt owners as frustrated as they already are, HTC and Verizon would throw them a bone and release some more detailed information than they have.

I guess that’s just wishful thinking.

Forget an official release. I’d settle with HTC just releasing the kernel source and radios.

BTW, the leaked 4.03 works great. And Google Now installs without a hitch.

You need too root your device first. Then put the rom on your status card go into recovery mode and make a backup. Then clear everything. Install rom from sd click yes. Try getting rom manager in the app store to get your clock work mod recovery. The first time I installed this it forsclosed on setup so delete everything again and ready install it. That should work. If you have problems with the data look for the newest radio and install over top the rom using recovery. Good luck!

This is the most negative website I have ever read. Everytime something good or positive comes out, you have to downplay it. Stop bringing people’s hopes up and then bringing them down, ICS will come out for the Thunderbbolt and if it doesn’t so be it, it’s not the end of the world.
