Samsung Galaxy Note 2 U.S. Release Date Likely On Fast Track

Published

on

Last year, it took five months for the Samsung Galaxy Note to hit the United States. This year, we feel that the U.S. release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will come a whole lot sooner than that.

Samsung introduced the original Samsung Galaxy Note at last year’s IFA conference, the same conference that will act as a launching pad for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the original Galaxy Note 2’s sequel.

The device then launched in October, starting with Germany, and then it spread to other regions throughout the world. Unfortunately, the United States was not a part of that initial push. Customers here in the United States had to wait until January 2012 and CES to get a glimpse at the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy Note.

We could see the Galaxy Note 2 arrive early in the U.S.

AT&T then released the 5.3-inch phone in February while T-Mobile released the Galaxy Note in August.

While most of the talk has been about the hardware improvements that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will make over the original – quad-core processor, slimmer design, bigger battery – there hasn’t been much chatter about something else that Samsung will likely improve on.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 U.S. release date.

Samsung has yet to confirm anything specific in regards to the Galaxy Note 2’s release date here in the United States but more and more, it’s looking like the device could definitely be coming a lot sooner than five months from its August 29th launch day. Here’s why.

Samsung Galaxy S III Launch Hints

When Samsung announced the Galaxy S III smartphone in May, it did something unusual for a foreign Android manufacturer. It actually announced a launch month for the device in the United States. The Galaxy S III was given a May launch date in the UK and a June launch window for the U.S. and other regions.

This shift seemed to indicate that Samsung was taking more control from carriers over its launches as AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and U.S. Cellular all launched the device within a few weeks of each other.

Apple does something similar with its iPhone and iPad.

So, that being said, the same thing could happen here with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, especially since the original did so well something that should make carriers more inclined to offer it.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note EOL

Yesterday, the T-Mobile Galaxy Note vanished from T-Mobile’s website without a trace. Soon after, the carrier was rumored to have attached an EOL (End of Life) tag on it which means it effectively is cancelled.

This is extremely interesting given that the device just launched and given the close proximity of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 launch.

It could be that T-Mobile cancelled the device because of poor sales (strange, considering it only gave it two weeks) or it could be that T-Mobile is gearing up to instead launch the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Competition

With the iPhone 5 rumored to have both 4G LTE and a larger screen, waiting until February to launch the Galaxy Note 2 in the United States could be a disastrous decision. If Samsung doesn’t give U.S. customers any sort of specific release window that comes in the near future, many will just assume that it’s far off and look to the iPhone 5 or another smartphone instead.

Let’s also not forget that there will likely be some competition in store for the Galaxy Note 2 at IFA 2012.

LG could very well announce the LG Intuition aka LG Optimus Vu for Verizon around that time and HTC is rumored to be unveiling a 5-inch smartphone of its own in the near future.

Samsung needs to do everything in its power to keep a stranglehold on the U.S. Android market and it can help its cause by delivering a Galaxy Note 2 early.

For the love of all that is sane launch the first week of September! Why has no one bothered to post a price on this phone? Is $800 or in that neighborhood going to be it? I am so sick of my 4 year old phone and fee-me-to-death carrier. I’m doing pay as you go from now on. I just hope they are smart enough to release it on other carriers. There’s no way I’d use AT&T.

Just talked to a T-mobile rep. They did not have poor sales, they sold out immediately. They gave it EOL because the note 2 is going to launch for them in late October. Can’t wait
