Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolls Out in U.S.

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Ice Cream Sandwich roll out has arrived for owners of the Android powered tablet in the United States.

We’ve heard from several owners who say that they have received Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich today and with numerous reports claiming that this is the case, we have no reason not to trust the information.

The update is apparently now available for the Wi-Fi only version of the Samsung Galaxy 8.9. Those who are on a carrier will just have to sit tight and wait for the upgrade to Android 4.0.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 has finally be updated to Android 4.0.

Those who own the Wi-Fi only version of the device should be able to pull the update from the device’s Settings in the About section of the tablet.

Once there, checking for an update should bring up a prompt to install Ice Cream Sandwich, an update that is over 300MB in size.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 owners who wish to install the update will want to block out a few minutes of time as the process could take awhile considering the update’s size.

Those who don’t want to wait for the update to roll out OTA are able to use the Samsung Kies application to install the software to get the device up and running with Android 4.0.

The software itself will bring a number of changes from the device’s previous version of Android, Android Honeycomb, and the changes are going to be for the better.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 owners will now get the new user interface, the much improved Browser, better multitasking and a whole lot more.

We assume that the update will also come with a bunch of bug fixes and enhancements that should wipe out some of the issues owners were having on Honeycomb.

Of course, ICS could bring some bugs along with it too but that remains to be seen.

For now, just enjoy Android 4.0 Galaxy Tab 8.9 owners.

I Have the GT-P7310 8.9 WiFi. This is the model that Samsung told me it has not released the ICS ROM for yet. Still no OTA in the USA for this model yet as of today.

For you others that have this model, the latest version of KIES will not connect for you reliably under Win7 64Bit. If you want to see if KIES has an update for you, then uninstall KIES and it’s drivers, GOOGLE search for KIES 2.3.0 and install it, DON”T update KIES, this older version connects just fine under Win 7. I could save you the trouble, no KIES Firmware update available for the GT-P7310 8.9 Tab is available in the USA yet as of today either.

The Good News? At least there is an official ICS ROM out now, hopefully those boys over at Cyanogen will release a Jelly-Bean ROM based on the official ICS Kernel from Samsung for this tablet…….

No clue about India mate, I thought the USA was last on the list. If it makes you feel better, despite this article, the GT P7310 8.9 wifi still has not received the upgrade to ICS in the USA as of august 30th. Also, dont flash your rom with CM10 jelly bean, it uses the gingerbread kernel, so is running at about 20% functionality, to be fair its just a taster.

Installed this on Aug. 29th. This was a horrible thing to do. A few things look better, but many things don’t function properly. Can we go back to 3.2? I don’t see a way to do it. Unless I’m able to go back, this upgrade turned my 8.9 into a worthless paperweight.

I love the ics upgrade. It runs a lot smoother than honeycomb. I just love it! Wish it was an upgrade to jellybean, but I guess it’s better than nothing.

Where is the UK update. Promised August, now end of September and still nothing. Is it really coming or has it, as i suspect, been shelved ?
