Leaked HTC Tablet Images Reveal Strange Chin, Is This the Vertex?

Published

on

HTC’s latest tablet appears to come with a flat chin, something similar to the GSM international HTC Hero that was released with the Android operating some years ago. The tablet’s chin gives users not only extra surface to grip and hold the tablet, but also accommodates a front-facing camera in that region. It’s unclear if HTC is going for continuity in design with the iconic HTC Hero design, or if the company is trying to do its best to create a non-attractive product to avoid an Apple design patent lawsuit that Samsung had faced and lost.

Though HTC may be trying its best to avoid having its tablet look like an iPad, the tablet does in fact resemble Apple’s iMac all-in-one PC with the extra chin on the bottom.

The images were leaked on Twitter by @evleaks and have since been posted on Droid-life.

Right now, it’s unclear if HTC’s tablet is running Google’s Android OS or Microsoft’s Windows 8 (Intel x86 chipset) or Windows RT (with ARM CPU). In the past, it’s been speculated that Microsoft is not allowing HTC to be an early OEM builder for Windows 8, so chances are that this tablet will run on Google’s Android OS. Regardless

htc-tab1-325x222HTC had released two Android tablets in the past, the HTC Flyer and the HTC Jetstream. Both devices had options for an active digitizing pen, which this tablet seemingly lacks from the leaked image. There does appear to be an accessory dock, however.

In the more distant past, HTC had released a device called the HTC Shift, which ran Windows.

HTC has been rumored to be working on a high-end tablet called the HTC Vertex with a quad-core CPU.

HTC Sense, HTC’s proprietary UI, appears to be pre-loaded on this slate.
