Huawei Shows Off New Emotion UI Android Skin

Published

on

In its attempt to build up its brand Huawei today announced its new Android skin called Emotion UI.

Huawei announced the new skin at IFA 2012, and strangely didn’t announce it as part of a new smartphone. Instead Huawei is asking its users to download the skin to test it on their devices. The Emotion UI ROM is currently available in Chinese for the Ascend P1, Ascend P1 XL, and Honor smartphones, and the English version will come out in Q4 2012.

The Chinese company says it talked to consumers to find out what they wanted from their smartphones and built Emotion UI around that. The company considers Emotion UI a “reflection of Huawei’s empathic design philosophy.”

One of the big features in Emotion UI is the new “Me” widget. The Me widget is a 3×4 widget that users can customize to show the information they want. It’s essentially a widget that tightly packs numerous other widgets into one. It looks like an easy way to use a number of widgets on one homescreen while leaving space for a row of icons.

Like many other Android skins, Emotion UI has a number of themes built-in and more that users can download from the web. It also has a tutorial to help users get used to the new UI for their Android smartphone.

Emotion UI reminds us a lot of HTC’s Sense 4, which is a good thing. Many users still prefer stock Android, but Sense 4 is one of the best Android skin available at the moment. We like that Emotion UI is optional at the moment, but we assume it will come pre-installed in future Huawei smartphones.
