Droid RAZR HD & Droid RAZR MAXX HD Release Date and Price Predictions

Published

on

At the Motorola event today in New York City, the company announced three new Droid RAZR devices: The Droid RAZR HD, the Droid RAZR MAXX HD and the Droid RAZR M. There, it shared most of the details about all three devices including their hardware, software, and their overall design.

Motorola revealed that it would be launching the lower-end Droid RAZR M on September 13th for $99.99 with pre-orders starting today. However, the company remains mum on four pieces of important information regarding the other two devices.

The company did not share the Droid RAZR HD or Droid RAZR MAXX HD release dates or the pricing on either when they hit shelves sometime before the holiday season.

The Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD are both without release dates.

Droid RAZR HD & Droid RAZR MAXX HD Release Dates

Motorola confirmed that the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD release dates will fall at some point prior to the holiday season of 2012. It did not, however, get into any sort of specifics regarding the launch window for either device which means the rest of the year is pretty much wide open as far as release dates are concerned.

Here is what the company shared regarding the release dates:

DROID RAZR HD and DROID RAZR MAXX HD will be available before the holidays. The DROID RAZR HD will be available in either Black or White and the DROID RAZR MAXX HD will be available in Black.

Sadly, this is the typical way that Motorola and Verizon announce devices. They will show off the phones but they won’t release anything regarding release date or pricing. This release window for the Droid RAZR HD and the Droid RAZR MAXX HD is unusually broad though. Often, they will say in the “coming weeks.”

However, it appears that Motorola and Verizon have left the window wide open with these two devices. Maybe because of the iPhone 5, new Nexus and Windows Phone 8 or maybe because the phones are unfinished. Think: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

In any event, it’s clear that we’re not close to a release date for either device. We have heard, in the past, either October or November for the Droid RAZR HD and assuming the Droid RAZR MAXX HD launches alongside it, that’s the window to expect for it as well.

This would allow Motorola and Verizon to launch after the iPhone 5, slated for a September launch, and allow them to launch them both well ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Keep in mind, the original Droid RAZR launched in November so that makes it a possible month because of the year cycle.

We don’t expect them to launch the phones in December.

Droid RAZR HD Pricing

As for pricing, the company remained silent on the details. We expect the Droid RAZR HD to be priced lower than the Droid RAZR MAXX HD due to its battery size.

While the original Droid RAZR launched with an expensive price tag, Verizon’s 4G LTE offerings have been launching for around $199.99 on-contract.

That, or $150 on-contract, the same price it charged for the Droid Incredible 4G LTE should be the expected pricing for the Droid RAZR HD.

Droid RAZR MAXX HD Pricing

We expect Verizon to charge a premium for the Droid RAZR MAXX HD due to its storage capacity and its battery size. And while Verizon once was able to get away with charging $299.99 on-contract for 4G LTE smartphones, that isn’t the case anymore.

So, we expect the Droid RAZR MAXX HD to land in the $199.99 to $249.99 area with the latter being more likely.

One thing is for sure. Expect different pricing for both the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD.

What I don’t understand is that the Maxx HD like the Maxx has the best build quality of any of the smart phones including the I5 and yet Motorola doesn’t seem to brag about it. What other phone has a Kevlar back with some type of water resistant coating on the inside? Yes, I know it isn’t water proof but at least it has an attempt at preventing moisture problems. No ohter Smart Phone has anything. The battery to me is ulitmately important. I can go all day with my Maxx and I use it a lot….what good is a wreless device if you are constantly looking to plug it in. The Maxx is really special…with every feature I need and the power to run it. Yep, I will be in line the Maxx HD….

I agree. The RAZR HD MAXX will be my next phone, based on the experience I have had with the current MAXX… At the end of the day it really is about battery life, and if a newer version happens to present it self with better features, why not. This phone works for what I need, and does it well.So why buy the HD? Because I can, and I want to, Its a quality product….

i actully dont use my phone all day and I love the new razrs coming out. After looking at reviews, it seems that the Razr M would not be my choice since its camera isnt the best. plus the HDs will have better front view cameras. I would love to get a Maxx, but as a guy who just got out of college and just starting a job, im going to stick with the Razr HD.

I got the Motorola Droid Pro when it first came out almost two years ago. Could have made a fortune selling lemonade because the thing was a lemon from day one. Three refurbished devices later. The battery life definitely didn’t support the device as it was meant to. I have to walk around with multiple batteries just to get through the day. I’ve seen great reviews on the Razrs, but I’m just so leery.

There is not a doubt in my mind. Going from the current RAZR MAXX to the MAXX HD will be my next step as well. I love my MAXX as I am an IT Director on the “leash” all day / night long. Washing the dished at 1:30AM when I get home and dropped the phone in the water… what do you know.. server allerted me that it was about to crash at 3AM on my “STILL F***ING WORKING” RAZR MAXX…and it didn’t even need a charge.
