iPhone 5 Launch Date: What Not to Expect

On September 12th in San Francisco, Apple will be hosting an event that surely will be the launch pad for its next-generation, a device that is currently known as the iPhone 5. And while there is much discussion about the iPhone 5 itself, it’s time to take a closer at the event where all of the magic will happen.

Earlier this week, Apple finally confirmed all of the rumors. There is an event taking place in San Francisco on September 12th and from the looks of things, it’s going to be an event centered around the iPhone 5.

The company has yet to confirm any hardware for the event but the invitation’s date does cast a shadow in the shape of a ‘5’ so it’s pretty apparent that it will be for the iPhone 5.

We still don’t know exactly what the iPhone 5 will be but we have a pretty good idea. Recent leaks and reports state that the device will indeed feature a brand new design, different than any previous iPhone models.

The iPhone 5 is rumored to feature a taller design complete with a 4-inch display with 16:9 aspect ratio, a metal back, a headphone jack on the bottom of the phone and a new, smaller dock connector.

It’s also rumored to have 4G LTE data speeds, a new front-facing camera, iOS 6, and a slimmer design than the one found on the iPhone 4S.

That’s what to expect, at the moment, from the iPhone 5. But now, it’s time to take a look at the event that will propel the iPhone 5 into the hearts and minds of the world’s population.

We have already taken a look at what to expect from the iPhone 5 launch event and now it’s time to take a look at what consumers should not expect to take place on September 12th.

A Live Stream

Unlike its competitors, Motorola and Samsung for instance, Apple likely won’t offer an official live stream for the iPhone 5 event which means those interested in watching will have to go one of two routes.

One, users can follow along with live blogs from various websites. There will be photos and text but no video. Or, users can tune into various leaked streams that attendees often stream secretly with a phone.

These third-party streams are often not good quality so don’t expect the world.

The other route interested parties can take is to wait until a few hours after the show as Apple generally posts the event for viewing on the same day that the event takes place.

Much Deviation

That being said, we don’t expect much deviation from the way past Apple hardware launches have gone. The event will be held in the same building it always is, the Buena Vista Center for the Arts in San Francisco, and it should go down just like other iPhone launches.

The event will offer some soothing music in the beginning and then Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO will take the stage to tout the company’s successes before introducing a new product, in this case, the iPhone 5.

Tim Cook will then give way to various other Apple executives who will go over and possibly demo some of the iPhone 5’s features and it’s possible that we’ll see third-party representatives on stage showing off new software or content that will work with the iPhone 5’s technology including its new, larger display.

That will give way to iOS 6 features, and possibly some that Apple left out of its WWDC 2012 announcement.

Apple is very good about pacing the event and easy on the ears which makes it easy to tune in for the duration of the event.

The iPhone 5 Only

Don’t expect Apple to debut the iPad Mini, the company’s rumored 7-inch iPad, alongside the iPhone 5. But, don’t expect the iPhone 5 to make its debut without some other new product coming along with it.

Right now, rumors point to new iPod models as possibly launching with the iPhone 5.

Both the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle lines are rumored to be getting upgrades at the event and there is also speculation that Apple might be launching a brand-new iPod nano at the event.

And if it’s not hardware, Apple may use the stage to show off a brand new piece of software or a revamped version of a solution that the company already has on the market.

Carriers Other Than the Big Three

Don’t expect Apple to announce U.S. iPhone 5 carriers other than the big three, a list that includes AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. Those were the carriers announced at launch for the iPhone 4S and we expect all three to carry the iPhone 5 at launch.

Apple will likely launch the iPhone 5 on several other carriers, C-Spire and U.S. Cellular are possibilities are they will have 4G LTE networks in place, but we don’t expect them to be announced at the event itself.

Shortage of Accessories

Another thing that interested parties should not expect is a shortage of accessories for the iPhone 5. We will likely see Apple introduce a new case for the newly designed iPhone 5.

In addition, if the new iPhone 5 comes with a new dock connector, we’ll likely see Apple show off some new accessories sporting connectivity with the new dock and we should also hear about a new dock connector adapter that will allow users of older iPhones to use the newer accessories.

Lack of Information

Lastly, don’t expect a lack of information at the iPhone 5 launch event. While Apple’s competitors, Motorola and Nokia come to mind, launch devices without firm release dates or pricing, Apple does the exact opposite.

It will show off its new hardware and it will not only announce carriers for that device, but it will also give consumers the information that, besides the specifications, they crave.

That information of course is pricing and release date information. Both of these will be bestowed upon the iPhone 5 at the event.

Right now, the iPhone 5 is rumored to have a release date of September 21st while Apple is also expected to keep its storage and pricing options intact with a 16GB model starting at $199 all the way up to $399 for a 64GB iPhone 5.
