Sprint iPhone 5 Snubs HD Voice

Published

While Sprint HD Voice will be coming to phones like the HTC EVO 4G LTE in the future, the feature will not be coming to Apple’s new iPhone 5 which was announced yesterday in San Francisco.

The carrier confirmed the news to PhoneScoop saying the HD Voice feature which Sprint announced earlier this year but has yet to release, will not be compatible with the iPhone 5 despite the fact that the device supports wideband audio, something other carriers market as HD Voice.

HD Voice for the HTC EVO 4G LTE appears to still be on track for later this year though Sprint still has not committed to a release date for the feature.

The iPhone 5 won’t support HD Voice on Sprint.

Sprint’s HD Voice support is exactly what the feature sounds like it would be. Calls made using the service are immensely better sounding then those that are made without HD Voice support.

The carrier doesn’t expect HD voice support to take a more prominent role until 2013 when it will spread to more devices in its lineup.

However, the iPhone 5 won’t be a part of those plans. Sprint did not give any reason as to why the feature will not be offered with its iPhone 5, despite the fact that 20 carriers will offer wideband audio support at launch.

While this isn’t a deal killer for a majority of those that will be looking to pick up the iPhone 5 and pair it with Sprint’s 4G LTE network and unlimited data option, it certainly would have been a fantastic feature to have on board, especially for those that spend quite a bit of time talking on their smartphone. Yes, people still talk on their phone.

Apple’s iPhone 5 will go up for pre-order at Midnight tonight and that pre-order period will extend to September 21st when the device will officially launch and arrive on the door steps of those who decided to pre-order.

The iPhone 5 features a new design that incorporates both glass and aluminum, a 4-inch display, A6 processor, 4G LTE data speeds and of course, Apple’s iOS 6 software.
