AT&T iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Begin to Ship

AT&T iPhone pre-orders have begun to ship out as many customers who pre-ordered their iPhone 5 through AT&T have received shipping information that will allow them to track their shipment prior to its arrival tomorrow.

We received numerous tips this morning indicating that lots of AT&T customers saw activity with their order over night and that AT&T updated their website with tracking information for those that will indeed receive their iPhone 5 tomorrow.

Apple did the same thing earlier today.

iPhone 5 pre-orders through AT&T have begun to ship.

As expected, some iPhone 5 orders placed through AT&T are going to be on FedEx trucks while others are going to be delivered by UPS, as can be seen in the image below.

What this means is that those who haven’t received a tracking number from AT&T, whose orders are still processing, will likely not see their iPhone 5 arrive tomorrow. That group could include plenty of people that pre-ordered last Friday, the first day that the iPhone 5 became available for pre-order.

If that’s the case, the second wave of iPhone 5 pre-orders should ship out anywhere between 14 and 21 business days from now. That means a two week wait at the very least.

Those who pre-order today will get, according to AT&T’s website, the same kind of wait time. We imagine that the shipping times could be pushed back if those who aren’t able to score one in-store tomorrow head back home and order online instead.

So, it would appear that for many, the dust is now settled and the new iPhone 5 will be on the doorstep tomorrow. UPS says that it will be delivering devices by the end of the day for residential deliveries, FedEx has a similar policy, so many of those who pre-ordered through AT&T may not see their device arrive until late in the day.

In other words, if it doesn’t arrive in the morning, remain patient and keep an eye on its progress in the carrier tracking.

    My iPhone is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, around 3pm. :D Ordering at 1am PST did pay off, apparently. I hope many of you guys get theirs tomorrow also.

    bulls*** for me i preordered my 32gb black iphone 5 nd my girls 16gb white iphone 5 same day last friday at 3:16 EST but mine is on backorder still processing but hers is shipped nd should arrive tomorrow by 3pm EST im sooo mad!!!!

      dee dee, it all depends on how fast you want to the phone. If you are willing to wait 2-3 weeks, you can either order straight from the Apple store or order it from your phone carrier. Input your information, pay and wait for a tracking number. Good luck fishing! :)

    I order the same thing 32gb black and 16gb white @ 8:30am on 9-14-12, I not getting my phones till 8/05/12. It suck but what can we do. :o(

    I’m getting mine tomorrow ordered through AT&T premier online at around 6:30 am. Even though the rep
    Argued with me yesterday insisting I would not get my phone shipped until the 21st which is when he claimed all pre orders would ship out. They obviously have no clue what’s going on. I go my tracking number this morning by checking my order status online they never sent me an email notifying me though. Also my premier account still says processing order do their end of it isn’t updating. But if I go to AT&T.com and track it with my cell phone number and zip code I can see it was shipped and tracking number weird huh.

      the reps are probably are not fully aware. Thank goodness I didn’t have to call AT&T to discuss this, or else I would also be puzzled.

    Why are some people getting their phones shipped when they clearly ordered after I did? I placed my order at 4:40am EST.

      Same here. And while I was definitely not one of the ones to order the phone in the wee hours of the morning, I did order it around 11:00 am est. I’ve seen already on other sites people are confirming that they ordered theirs at 3 and 4 pm at the AT&T brick and mortar store and are getting theirs on the 21st. Seems like some AT&T stores dropped the ball?

      May depend on the model you ordered. Assume 16 gig is the most popular and therefore higher probability of being backorderd.

    This is crap – my ATT phone is going to be late. I ordered it off the ATT website at 5am. Now the expected ship date is: between 10/4/2012 and 10/15/2012.

      I got a txt on 9/14 saying (Congratulations!) your order is processed. We will let you know when it’s shipped. And now 10/4 to 10/15. I am pissed.

    Ordered my phone before 11:00 AM EDT on 9/14 and told by AT&T representative that phone is scheduled to be delivered 9/21. Only email I received was about terms and conditions and a confirmation of the order later in the day. They put through a charge on my credit card. Order is shown on AT&T website as processing. No updates, no information. Had to call AT&T to put in the order because the website wasn’t taking the order. AT&T representative said all her customers that day were calling because the website wasn’t working properly. At this point I would like to cancel order and try through Apple than #ATTFail. If AT&T ends unlimited plan then it is goodbye AT&T and happily I will go though Verizon probably isn’t any better.

      That seems odd. I was assured multiple times that those that ordered online or by phone would definitely get their phones on launch day. Which was what I thought to be my mistake by ordering mine at the AT&T store. I wish someone at AT&T would get their act together. I’m not pissed about not getting it on launch day. My problem is that I’ll be out of town if it is supposed to arrive on the first week of October.

      I did not get any email from ATT – only a text. I ordered at 5am on 9/14. Now the ship date is 10/4 to 10/15. I called two days ago and I was told that it would ship on 9/21 (rather unconvincingly, might I add).

    I ordered mine 3:01EST and ill have mine tomorrow by 3pm or earlier. It seems anyone that ordered their phone after 4:00amEST has to wait since Apple changed their status at 4:00am from the 21st to 2-3weeks. Basically they have sold out if preorders a little after the first hour of ordering?

    I ordered mine (blk) and my wife’s (wht) on Sept 14th at 12:45ish am in the early morning, when the Apple web site finally allowed access to order, yet it won’t deliver until October 5th. So I dont understand how some are getting their preorders tomorrow, 21st, and I have to wait so long even though I preordered within the first hour of eligibility.

    Are there still going to be iPhone 5′s available in stores at 8am for those who did not pre order? This is ridiculous! If I knew pre ordering was just going to garuntee that I get mine later than those who didn’t even pre order, than I would have just camped out at a store. They better have some type of explanation/ compensation or it’s goodbye AT&T. I don’t pay good money for this type of service!

    When I called AT&T, the lady I talked to told me, “we’ll you see the people who wait outside the store want it more then the people who Pre-order.” From that day forward, I realized humanity is fawked

    Dear Mr. Stephenson,
    I’m writing to tell you my experience with AT&T recently. We recently made an online order with AT&T for the preorder of the iPhone 5. We tried to make an order at 1:15 AM MST September 14, 2012 and there was too much volume and AT&T’s servers went offline. We tried again and again and finally at 2:05 AM MST we had success. The website confirmed that we would receive an iPhone 5 and with in 30 minutes we received an email confirming we would receive the iPhone 5 on 21st. I received two other emails later on that explained how to contact AT&T using the phone and how to check to see your balances etc. I thought everything was fine and that I would receive my phone as promised on the 21st. I checked my AT&T account yesterday to check on the order status and it shows that the phone is processing. I looked online and checked the message boards to find that people that ordered the phone later than me had already received tracking for their phones. So I called AT&T customer care at 7:30 AM the first agent I talked with told me I would be receiving it today on the 21st as promised. Two Hours went by no tracking and I decided to check again and the second customer care agent told me that it had updated to being shipped 2-3 weeks but she then looked at the time I ordered the phone and said you ordered it early enough that you will get it tomorrow for sure. Well now I am hopeful but I’m starting to have some doubt that I’m going to get the phone tomorrow. Another hour went by and I decided I need to call one more time to make sure that I’m getting the phone. The third customer care agent told me that I would not be getting the phone until 4-10 of October. How could that be? I said I ordered earlier than customers on the message boards that have already received tracking. I was told that she knew that and mine had been back-ordered. I hung up told my wife the bad news and she told me to call back again. I called customer care a forth time only to find out my order had been processed and I would receive the phones Saturday or Monday at the latest. I said are you sure, she replied and said yes. I told my wife and we were both pretty excited we had sold our old phones and bought some cheap used iPhone 3’s that we were going to sale once we got our new phones. We are going to Disneyland October 1st and the new phones will be perfect to take pictures of our family trip. Now I decided that I would call customer care one more time just to make sure that we are indeed getting the phones. I called for the fifth and final time the customer care agent looked up the order and said the order had been processed and I should receive the new phones between October 4-10. I said are you sure I was just told the 22nd or the 24th of September. She said I’m sorry but that is the dates we have. Now I am pretty deflated and discouraged. She told me I should try to go to the store in the morning to try and get a phone. I decided I would go and try to get a phone at the retail store. I called the local AT&T store and asked if it would be possible for me to get two phones. They said one per customer. I decided I could not go and get a phone without getting one for my wife. We have an autistic daughter that my wife volunteers at her school and would not be able to stand in line with me at the AT&T store. So as of today I have not heard anything from AT&T and had I not called yesterday I would be under the impression I was getting phones today. Last year I preordered the iPhone 4S from AT&T and received the iPhone 4 and not the 4S as ordered. I’m wondering if my account number is doomed by your system or am I just that unlucky. I no you will never read this letter but it has helped me blow off some steam. We are still loyal customers that feel like we have been betrayed.

    okay i am joining in the conversation…i pre ordered my iphone 5 16gb white in store because i wanted to keep my unlimited data plan…I ordered my phone at 8:50 AM PST and was told by the sales rep that i would be receiving it for sure…i call ATT a few minutes ago to find out that my order was placed at 8:36PM PST…

    I don’t mind waiting for the iphone 5,,but come on…waking up early to go to the store to find out that my order wasn’t placed till night? GIVE ME A BREAK!

    I ordered at 12:05 am PST through AT&T, order was accepted, I received an email saying it would be delivered Sept 21. According to the order page, it is still processing even today. I called and the clueless rep told me October 5-14th. AT&T, as always, is a terrible organization to deal with. I should have order directly through Apple and changed to Verizon or Sprint.

      Me too. I placed my order on 9/14 04:40am EST but it still shows me processing/pending shipment. The one of reps told me today that I am going to get it after Oct 4th. I found out today that the one who ordered even later (9/14 7am) than I did got iPhone 5 today. R U kidding me, AT&T? It IS so unfair!

    Ordered an iphone5 today using my wife’s iphone4 eligibility. It appears that the iphone5 will arrive with her number. Can that be easily changed to mine when the time comes and is this done at the att store?

    I dont understand. I ordered by phone early on the 14th thru AT&T. My wife decided she wanted one so we ordered it on the 16th. Hers is being shipped but by order is being processed. It must be the phone type that was ordered. She got a white 64g while i just got a black 16g. should of bought the bigger gig phone….. O’well.

    Pre-ordered 3 (16G, 32G and 64G) Iphones on Friday, 9-14-12 at 1040 am at a local San Jose Ca ATT outlet. I was told delivery would be 2-3 weeks out. Friday, 9-21 rolls around and passes by. Sunday, 9-23-12 at 4:30-5:00 pm, I get two emails that the 16G and 64G are enroute via FedEx, standard overnight. the 32G shouldn’t be too far behind. Ready to sell my 3 Iphone 4′s…:)

    Some of y’all are being a little ridiculous. It’s a phone that has an impossible amount of demand (equally impossible to gauge) right now. you’ll get it when you get it. BE THANKFUL WE CAN AFFORD IT when some people can barely put food on the table. Geez o peets.

      Well said MminCa. I agree, it’s only a phone we are waiting for – not the cure for cancer. Even though I can’t wait till it arrives. I ordered the 5 – 16 gb on 9/18, I’m hoping I get it before Christmas ;)

    I pre ordered mine and my daughters on the first day possible about 10 am PDT. They promised the next Friday it would arrive at my house. Was told at the ATT store, that no way would anybody get their phones at the store ahead of the preorder people. Liers! I am really mad. They expected 6 to 6.5 million phones to be preordered/bought by the 3rd day. They got 5 million preordered/bought. WTF. They sill weren’t prepared? What is ATT’s problem? I would love to dump ATT, but I got a grandfathered plan that is better than the ones offered now. I suppose I will get mine in late October too! I am angry!

    have anyone try to cancel your order with ATT? I tried doing that after not getting any traction on the processing status that’s the only thing I see in my order. I ordered the phone via ATT on 9/14 and nothing is moving forward with my order. I called ATT and after 2 hours that a kind customer support lady expend searching for my order, which did not come up in her system at all, she decided to transferred me to a manager. I told the manager that I wanted to cancel my order and was not happy with the tracking not being available, not being able to get any status, and the issues their own customer support staff experience just to search my order. The guy was very unpleasant and told me that there is no way in hell I can cancel my order. After a five minute argument and trying to get his manager’s name, I told him that I was going to dispute the charges via my bank and force the cancellation of my order. The guy told me to go to hell and hang up on me. I am now in the process of disputing the charge of a phone I can’t cancel and have no idea when will be shipped and delivered…
