UPS: We Won’t Deliver iPhone 5 Orders Early
In the past, logistics companies–whether that be UPS or FedEx in the U.S.–that handle big product launches for Apple may sometimes deliver the highly anticipated flagship phones or tablets a day or two early. With the iPhone 5 being the ‘biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone’ according to Apple, customers who have pre-ordered the flagship smartphone and are guaranteed a delivery date of September 21 are now wondering if they will get their orders early this time around. The answer is no due to a tight embargo by Apple.
For the iPhone 5, Apple is contracting with UPS for shipments and delivery of the smartphone into customers’ homes and according to the shipping company, “Apple has required that UPS deliver iPhone shipments to customers on and not before Friday, September 21, 2012.” Brief Mobile is reporting that iPhone users hoping to get early shipments of the iPhone 5 are out of luck.
UPS further states that the iPhone 5 are being staged in strategic locations and ‘moved on a coordinated schedule for deliver’ by the scheduled date of Firday, September 21, 2012. That means that the iPhone 5 may be sitting in some warehouses now and UPS won’t begin delivering them until September 21, 2012.
With the iPhone 4 being one of the first times that Apple has allowed customers to preorder the smartphone without having to wait in lines at its retail stores or at an AT&T store, the device also began appearing early at some customers’ homes. The iPhone 4S was held to a more strict delivery schedule and it looks like UPS is not about to spoil Apple’s launch day bonanza with early deliveries of the iPhone 5.
For those who didn’t make the early pre-order rounds, Apple is now showing 3-4 weeks for delivery.

I pre-ordered a Iphone 5 on launch date(sept 14) at my local ATT store at 920 am eastern time. As of 9/20 1112 am I still have not recived ant tracking info. Apple is dropping the ball.

You could have looked it up on UPS. Just go to their site and type in the phone number you used on your order, you type it under reference number and fill in your zip code. Your order should pull up and you should then have your tracking number. Though I finally got my email stating my phone has shipped. Just because they didn’t email you doesn’t mean it didn’t ship, mine shipped the 16th, and like I said, I just got the email today. But I looked up my order on UPS days ago. Hope this helps.

I preordered on the morning of the 14th as well, and my UPS tracking today shows that it’s been out for delivery since 6:04AM – and still no package at 6pm.
